Conceptual model of hydrogeological information for a GIS-based Decision Support System in management of artificial recharge in semi-arid regions
نویسندگان
چکیده
The semi-arid regions of the Mediterranean basin face water problems due to particular climatic conditions, precipitation shortages and different human activities stimulating pressures on the main water source: groundwater. The spatio-temporal inadequacy of water supply and demand in terms of quantity and quality causes overexploitation in dry periods, which can induce various problems such as seawater intrusion, biogeochemical changes, base flow reductions etc. The objective of the GABARDINE project (“Groundwater Artificial recharge Based on Alternative sources of wateR: aDvanced INtegrated technologies and managEment”) is to identify alternative sources of water and to investigate the environmental and economic feasibility of artificial recharge of aquifers. To meet the objective, a GIS-based Decision Support System is being developed. Problems being spatially and temporally distributed, it is necessary to store all needed data in a well structured geospatial database. This database is being conceived according to a blue-print UML conceptual model of hydrogeological information, based on internationally accepted norms and specifications from ISO and OGC, adapted due to the particularities of the ArcGIS desktop implementation platform.

Groundwater recharge study in arid region: An approach using GIS techniques and numerical modeling
To demonstrate the capabilities of Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques and numerical modeling for groundwater resources development in arid areas, specifically for the demarcation of suitable sites for the artificial recharge of groundwater aquifers, a study was carried out in the Maknassy basin, which is located in Central Tunisia. Thematic maps were prepared using a Hydrogeological...

Recently, special attention has been paid to artificial groundwater recharge in water resource management in arid and semi-arid regions. Water resources distribution in these regions is extremely uneven, both in spatial and temporal forms and groundwater is the only water resource and is a major constraint on economic and social development. Artificial groundwater recharge is considered an appr...

The water crisis is harmful effects on human life. Also one of the most problems in the human society is water resources management. In this study, site selection of most suitable areas for artificial recharge using Boolean model. Criteria used to select the most suitable area for artificial recharge included: infiltration, slope, aquifer thickness, aquifer quality. The layers were produced an...
متن کاملDevelopment of an Improved Fuzzy Approach to Model Potential Sites for Groundwater Artificial Recharge
Delineation of potential sites for groundwater artificial recharge is an important and challenging task. The purpose of this research is to develop a new data-driven fuzzy approach to model potential sites for groundwater artificial recharge. To achieve this end, the efficient criteria of a proper site for groundwater artificial recharge were first recognized and presented as a conceptual model...
