On the Conjugacy of Element-Conjugate Homomorphisms II

چکیده
We therefore consider only connected groups, which we often choose to regard as connected reductive algebraic groups over R. This paper classifies connected, simply connected, acceptable, compact groups. As a byproduct of the method, we also treat the non-simply connected, exceptional groups. It turns out that the only acceptable, exceptional group is G2. The original motivation for this question is the construction of automorphic forms appearing with multiplicity greater than 1 in the space of cusp forms on the dual group of G [1]. Our methods also find application in differential geometry; we construct for each n ≥ 35, a non-isometric pair of isospectral manifolds with universal covering space Spin(n). This paper could not have existed in its present form without the generous help of R. Pink. It gives me great pleasure to acknowledge his assistance. I would also like to thank W. Ziller for a useful conversation about symmetric spaces and the Max Planck Institut für Mathematik, for its hospitality while this work was in progress.

Singleton doubly-twisted conjugacy classes in free groups
We give a simple method which can be used to show that an element of a free group is the only member of its doubly-twisted conjugacy class with respect to a pair of homomorphisms having a natural remnant property. We also show that most pairs of homomorphisms have infinitely many such singleton classes.
متن کاملRemnant inequalities and doubly-twisted conjugacy in free groups
We give two results for computing doubly-twisted conjugacy relations in free groups with respect to homomorphisms φ and ψ such that certain remnant words from φ are longer than the images of generators under ψ. Our first result is a remnant inequality condition which implies that two words u and v are not doubly-twisted conjugate. Further we show that if ψ is given and φ, u, and v are chosen at...
متن کاملA Note on the Descent Property Theorem for the Hybrid Conjugate Gradient Algorithm CCOMB Proposed by Andrei
In [1] (Hybrid Conjugate Gradient Algorithm for Unconstrained Optimization J. Optimization. Theory Appl. 141 (2009) 249 - 264), an efficient hybrid conjugate gradient algorithm, the CCOMB algorithm is proposed for solving unconstrained optimization problems. However, the proof of Theorem 2.1 in [1] is incorrect due to an erroneous inequality which used to indicate the descent property for the s...
متن کاملA NOTE ON THE COMMUTING GRAPHS OF A CONJUGACY CLASS IN SYMMETRIC GROUPS
The commuting graph of a group is a graph with vertexes set of a subset of a group and two element are adjacent if they commute. The aim of this paper is to obtain the automorphism group of the commuting graph of a conjugacy class in the symmetric groups. The clique number, coloring number, independent number, and diameter of these graphs are also computed.
متن کاملFailure of Separation by Quasi-homomorphisms in Mapping Class Groups
We show that mapping class groups of surfaces of genus at least two contain elements of infinite order that are not conjugate to their inverses, but whose powers have bounded torsion lengths. In particular every homogeneous quasi-homomorphism vanishes on such an element, showing that elements of infinite order not conjugate to their inverses cannot be separated by quasi-homomorphisms. This note...
