The Tesla Cryogenic Accelerator Modules

The Tera-eV Energy Superconducting Linear Accelerator (TESLA), a 32 km long superconducting linear electron/positron collider of 500 GeV (upgradeable to 800 GeV) centre of mass energy, presently in the planning phase at DESY, will consist of about 21000 superconducting RF 9-cell cavities of pure Niobium. Each cavity of about 1 m length has to be cooled in a 2.0 K helium bath and operated at 1.3...

Beam Test of a Superconducting Cavity for the Fermilab High-brightness Electron Photo-injector

An electron photo-injector facility has been constructed at Fermilab for the purpose of providing a 14–18 MeV electron beam with high charge per bunch (8 nC), short bunch length (1 mm RMS), and small transverse emittance [1]. The facility was used to commission a second-generation photo-cathode RF gun for the TeSLA Test Facility (TTF) Linac at DESY [2, 3]; in the future, the Fermilab electron b...

Energy-Recovery Option for a Future X-ray Free-Electron Laser

A superconducting electron linac together with an energy-recovery system, which has been demonstrated as a useful driver for high-power IR-FELs, seems to be an attractive device for a future X-ray FEL facility as well, because the energy-recovery enable one to reduce the RF generator power required for the operation and also reduce the radiation from the beam dump. Automatic cancellation of bea...

New Possibilities for Superconducting Cavity Testing at Cornell University

Cornell is testing superconducting cavities for many different purposes: system development for CESR, supporting technology transfer of CESR SRF systems to storage ring light sources around the world, collaboration with the world-wide TESLA project, collaboration with Muon Collider/Neutrino Factory projects, developing an Energy Recovery Linac (ERL) based synchrotron light source in collaborati...
