Experimental Verification of Self-amplified Spontaneous Emission in the Far-infrared Region

چکیده
We are conducting experiments to generate selfamplified spontaneous emission (SASE) in the farinfrared region and to measure its characteristics, such as peak power, dependency on the K-value, and spectral width, using a single bunch electron beam accelerated with the L-band linac at ISIR, Osaka University. The measured characteristics are in good agreement with the one-dimensional model of SASE. We have also observed the second harmonic peak of SASE originating from the non-linear harmonic generation.

Characteristics of Dual Amplified Spontaneous Emission from MEH-PPV Solutions
We report the observations of dual wavelength amplified spontaneous emission from the solutions of a conjugated polymer poly [2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-1, 4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV) in Tetrahydrofuran and 1, 2 Dichlorobenzene. We have prepared MEH-PPV using a modified procedure and purified several times in each step, the material offers low molecular weight, low polydispersity index an...
متن کاملThe Free-electron Laser Collective Instability and the Development of X-ray Fels*
We discuss the physics of collective instabilities in particles beams, and consider one particular case: the free-electron laser (FEL) collective instability. We present a review of the main characteristics of this instability, and its application to the development of Self Amplified Spontaneous Emission (SASE) FELs from the infrared to the X-ray region.
متن کاملNonlinear Harmonic Radiation from a Visible
Scientists from the University of California, Los Angeles, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Stanford Linear Accelerator Center and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have demonstrated for the first time the feasibility of using nonlinear harmonic self-amplified spontaneous emission (SASE) free electron laser (FEL) radiation to produce coherent, femtosecond x-rays. Nonlinear harmonic radiatio...
متن کاملRoom-temperature far-infrared emission from a self-organized InGaAsÕGaAs quantum-dot laser
Far-infrared spontaneous emission at 300 K and lower temperatures, due to intersubband transitions in self-organized In0.4Ga0.6As/GaAs quantum dots, has been characterized. Measurements were made with a multidot layer near-infrared ~;1 mm! interband laser. The far-infrared signal, centered at 12 mm, was enhanced after the interband transition reached threshold at 300 K. The results are explaine...
متن کاملBroadband Self-amplified Spontaneous Coherent Synchrotron Radiation in a Storage Ring
Bursts of coherent synchrotron radiation at far-infrared and millimeter wavelengths have been observed at several storage rings. A microbunching instability has been proposed as the source for the bursts but the mechanism has yet to be elucidated. We provide the first evidence that the bursts are due to a microbunching instability driven by the emission of synchrotron radiation in the bunch. Ob...
