Ramping Profile for Exact Beam Loading Energy Compensation in the NLC Detuned Structure
نویسنده
چکیده
This note determines the profile of the power input into an accelerator section during one fill time prior to beam injection required to reduce the transient beam energy spread to zero, for any group velocity profile along the section, and for any variation of shunt resistance and Q with group velocity. It confirms that the field (the square root of the power) has to be linear for a true constant gradient (CG) section, but will deviate slightly from linearity for detuned and constant impedance (CZ) sections. In this Revision, a somewhat different approximation is used to model the NLC detuned structure. Also, in the original note the & and shunt impedance were assumed to vary linearly along the length of the structure, whereas in the present note these parameters are obtained from a polynomial fit. However, the final result for required input power, beam loading gradient, etc, differ only slightly from the values obtained in the original note. Theory

Beam Loading Compensation for the Nlc Low Frequency Linacs
The NLC low rf linacs are heavily loaded by a beam of about 130 ns in macropulse length (90 bunches) and a current up to 2.75 Amps. Beam loading voltage generates a large energy spread along the bunch train. This energy spread is critical for lattice design and, if not properly compensated, induces emittance growth and in turn lowers the luminosity of the machine. In this paper, we study the AF...
متن کاملBeam Loading Compensation in the Nlcta*
In the design of the Next Linear Collider (NLC), multibunch operation is employed to improve efficiency at the cost of substantial beam loading. The RF pulse that powers the accelerator structures will be shaped to compensate for the effect of the transient loading along the bunch train. This scheme has been implemented in the Next Linear Collider Test Accelerator (NLCTA), a facility built to t...
متن کاملLow Current, Long Beam Pulse with SLED
The 3 km long linac at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) is used for fixed target experiments such as E-155, with energies up to 50 GeV. The SLAC Energy Development (SLED) system increase the maximum no-load energy by a factor of 1.6, but it also causes a varying beam energy curve. To provide a long pulse or bunch train for the experiment the energy profile has to be flat. Besides m...
متن کاملBeam Loading Compensation for the Low Frequency Linacs and Compressors in the Nlc
The low frequency rf linacs and bunch compressors in the NLC are heavily loaded by beam currents up to 0.9 A. Beam loading generates bunch-to-bunch energy deviations, which need to be compensated to operate with long bunch trains in the linear collider. There are two basic compensation techniques, namely T and F schemes. The F scheme is operationally straightforward but requires additional rf s...
متن کاملCalculating RF ’ Profiles for Beam Loading Compensation of Arbitrary Current Profiles
In the NLC, the energy variation along the multi-bunch beam pulse will be controlled by preloading the structure with a ramped rf profile which is followed by constant amplitude rf. The rf amplitude modulation will be achieved by combining the outputs of pairs of oppositely phase-modulated klystrons through a hybrid. Such agile phase modulation is currently used in the NLCTA[ I]. The duration o...
