Chapter 7 Taxonomy Design

چکیده
This chapter discusses the design of taxonomies to be used in dynamic taxonomy systems. Although the only actual requirement of dynamic taxonomies is a multidimensional classification, i.e., objects are classified under more than one concept, an organization by facets is normally used. In the first section, we provide guidelines for the design of DT taxonomies, which include the automatic construction from structured data, and the retrofitting of traditional monodimensional taxonomies. In the second section, we show how a faceted taxonomy can be automatically extracted from the infobase itself when objects are textual or are described by textual captions or tags.

A Taxonomy and Survey of Energy-Efficient Data Centers and Cloud Computing Systems
Traditionally, the development of computing systems has been focused on performance improvements driven by the demand of applications from consumer, scientific and business domains. However, the ever increasing energy consumption of computing systems has started to limit further performance growth due to overwhelming electricity bills and carbon dioxide footprints. Therefore, the goal of the co...
متن کاملParallel Approaches for Multiobjective Optimization
This chapter presents a general overview of parallel approaches for multiobjective optimization. For this purpose, we propose a taxonomy for parallel metaheuristics and exact methods. This chapter covers the design aspect of the algorithms as well as the implementation aspects on different parallel and distributed architec-
متن کاملLocal Feature Design Concepts, Classification, and Learning
In this chapter we examine several concepts related to local feature descriptor design— namely local patterns, shapes, spectra, distance functions, classification, matching, and object recognition. The main focus is local feature metrics, as shown in Figure 4-1. This discussion follows the general vision taxonomy that will be presented in Chapter 5, and includes key fundamentals for understandi...
متن کاملA Tool for Semi-Automatic Generation and Maintenance of Taxonomies from Semi-Structured Documents
This chapter introduces OntoExtractor, a tool for the semi-automatic generation of the taxonomy from a set of documents or data sources. The tool generates the taxonomy in a bottom-up fashion. Starting from structural analysis of the documents, it produces a set of clusters, which can be refined by a further grouping created by content analysis. Metadata describing the content of each cluster i...
