Atoms in a Harmonic Trap
نویسنده
چکیده
A self-consistent mean-field theory for bosons for T > 0 is used to reconcile predictions of collapse with recent observations of Bose-Einstein condensation of Li. Eigenfunctions of a (non-separable) Hamiltonian that includes the anisotropic external trap field and atom-atom interactions are obtained by an iteration process. A sum over the Bose distribution, and the “alternating direction implicit” algorithm are used. Near Tc, the ensemble exhibits a localized condensate composed of atoms in the few lowest states. For lower T , numerical instability indicates collapse to a more dense phase. 03.75.Fi,05.30.Jp,32.80.Pj Typeset using REVTEX

Multiscale quantum-defect theory for two interacting atoms in a symmetric harmonic trap
We present a multiscale quantum-defect theory for two identical atoms in a symmetric harmonic trap that combines the quantum-defect theory for the van der Waals interaction B. Gao, Phys. Rev. A 64, 010701 R 2001 at short distances with a quantum-defect theory for the harmonic trapping potential at large distances. The theory provides a systematic understanding of two atoms in a trap, from deepl...
متن کاملTwo atoms in an anisotropic harmonic trap
We consider the system of two interacting atoms confined in axially symmetric harmonic trap. Within the pseudopotential approximation, we solve the Schrödinger equation exactly, discussing the limits of quasi-oneand quasi-two-dimensional geometries. Finally, we discuss the application of an energy-dependent pseudopotential, which allows us to extend the validity of our results to the case of ti...
متن کاملSpin-orbit coupling and perpendicular Zeeman field for fermionic cold atoms: Observation of the intrinsic anomalous Hall effect
We propose a scheme for generating Rashba spin-orbit coupling and a perpendicular Zeeman field simultaneously for cold fermionic atoms in a harmonic trap through the coupling between atoms and laser fields. The realization of Rashba spin-orbit coupling and a perpendicular Zeeman field provides opportunities for exploring many topological phenomena using cold fermionic atoms. We focus on the int...
متن کاملDynamic response of interacting one-dimensional fermions in the harmonic atom trap: The local mobility
The local frequency dependent mobility of one-dimensional interacting fermionic atoms in the harmonic trap is calculated using a phase operator formalism. A new resonance at the frequency of collective density excitations below Kohn’s mode is found. The extension to the case of two interacting components is also given.
متن کاملTwo Cold Atoms in a Harmonic Trap 1
Two ultracold atoms moving in a trap interact weakly at a very short distance. This interaction can be modeled by a properly regularized contact potential. We solve the corresponding time{independent Schrr odinger equation under the assumption of a parabolic, spherically symmetric trapping potential.
متن کاملSelf-organization effects and light amplification of collective atomic recoil motion in a harmonic trap
Self-organization effects related to light amplification in the collective atomic recoil laser system with the driven atoms confined in a harmonic trap are investigated further. In the dispersive parametric region, our study reveals that the spontaneously formed structures in the phase space contributes an important role to the light amplification of the probe field under the atomic motion bein...
