Accurate intraoperative photographic documentation in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery is essential for clinical, scientific and medicolegal purposes. Several methods are used to take pictures during the operation. Generally the surgeon or assistant take photographs using double gloves or covering the digital camera with a waterproof camera case. Often extra staff members help surgeons in taking photographs. The Authors adopted a personal technique, allowing the surgeon to take pictures by himself, using a sterile polyethylene disposable camera cover to wrap the smartphone, without any loss of sterility, saving time and reducing costs. This technique is applicable to any smartphone and the materials used for the “home-made” cover are easily available in any operating theater.
