چکیده

Measurements of [CI], J=2–1 13 CO and J=4–3 12 CO emission from quiescent, starburst and active galaxy centers reveal a distinct pattern characterized by relatively strong [CI] emission. The [CI] to 13 CO emission ratio increases with central [CI] luminosity. It is lowest in quiescent and mild starburst centers and highest for strong starburst centers and active nuclei. C • abundances are close to, or even exceed, CO abundances. The emission is characteristic of warm and dense gas rather than either hot tenuous or cold very dense gas. The relative intensities of CO, [CI], [CII] and far-infrared emission suggest that the dominant excitation mechanism in galaxy centers may be different from that in Photon-Dominated Regions (PDRs).

Neutral atomic carbon in centers of galaxies

We present measurements of the emission from the centers of fifteen spiral galaxies in the P1 − 3 P0 [CI] fine-structure transition at 492 GHz. Observed galaxy centers range from quiescent to starburst to active. The intensities of neutral carbon, the J=2–1 transition of CO and the J=4–3 transition of CO are compared in matched beams. Most galaxy centers emit more strongly in [CI] than in CO, c...

CI and CO in the nearby spiral galaxies IC 342 and Maffei 2

We present J=2–1, J=3–2, J=4–3 CO and 492 GHz [CI] maps as well as J=2–1 and J=3–2 CO measurements of the central regions in the nearby Sc galaxies IC 342 and Maffei 2. In both galaxies. the distribution of CO and [CI] is strongly concentrated towards the center. These centers harbour modest starbursts. Both galaxies have nearly identical CO transitional ratios but the relative intensities of t...

The star - burst galaxies NGC 278 , NGC 660 , NGC 3628 , NGC 4631 , and NGC 4666

Aims. We study the physical properties and mass of molecular gas in the central regions of galaxies with active nuclei. GHz [CI] maps in three of these are used to model the molecular gas. Results. All five objects contain bright CO emission in the central regions. Clear central concentrations were found in NGC 660, NGC 3628, and NGC 4666, but not in the weakest CO emitters NGC 278 and NGC 4631...

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding  the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and  the distribution of the baryons is gal...

Ci and Co in the Spiral Galaxies Ngc 6946 and M 83

We present J=2–1, J=3–2, J=4–3 CO and 492 GHz [CI] maps as well as J=2–1 and J=3–2 CO measurements of the late type spiral galaxies NGC 6946 and M 83 (NGC 5236). Both galaxies contain a pronounced molecular gas concentration in rapid solid-body rotation within a few hundred parsec from their nucleus. NGC 6946 and M 83 have nearly identical relative intensities in the CO, CO and [CI] transitions...
