Far Ultraviolet Fluorescence of Molecular Hydrogen in IC 63

چکیده

We present observations of H2 fluorescence at wavelengths between 1000 and 1200 Å from the bright reflection nebula IC 63. Observations were performed with the Berkeley spectrograph aboard the ORFEUS-II mission (Hurwitz et al. 1998). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first detection of astrophysical H2 fluorescent emission at these wavelengths (excluding planetary atmospheres). The shape of the spectrum is well described by the model of Sternberg (1989). The absolute intensity, however, is fainter than an extrapolation from observations at longer ultraviolet wavelengths (Witt et al. 1989) by a factor of ten. Of the mechanisms that might help reconcile these observations, optical depth effects in the fluorescing H2 itself are the most promising (or at least the most difficult to rule out). Subject headings: molecular processes, ISM: molecules, reflection nebulae: individual (IC 63), ultraviolet: ISM

Fluorescent Molecular Hydrogen Emission in Ic 63 : Fuse , Hut , and Rocket Observations

We present far-ultraviolet observations of IC 63, an emission/reflection nebula illuminated by the B0.5IV star γ Cassiopeia, located 1.3 pc from the nebula. Molecular hydrogen fluorescence was detected first in IC 63 by IU E and later at shorter wavelengths by ORF EU S. Here we present F ar U ltraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (F U SE) observations towards three locations in the neb-ula, complem...

Rocket and Fuse Observations of Ic 405: Differential Extinction and Fluorescent Molecular Hydrogen

We present far-ultraviolet spectroscopy of the emission/reflection nebula IC 405 obtained by a rocket-borne long-slit spectrograph and the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer. Both data sets show a rise in the ratio of the nebular surface brightness to stellar flux (S/F⋆) of approximately two orders of magnitude towards the blue end of the far-UV bandpass. Scattering models using simple dust...

In vitro study of drug-protein interaction using electronic absorption, fluorescence, and circular dichroism spectroscopy

In the near future, design of a new generation of drugs targeting proteins will be required. Considering the complex bond between the drug and protein, the structure and stability of the target protein should be considered. So far, a series of in vitro investigations have been conducted with the aim of predicting drug-biological medium interactions. In these studies, use of spectroscopic method...

Modeling of Fluorescent Molecular Hydrogen in IC405

Rocket observations of the reflection nebula IC 405 are presented, including a high quality spectrum of the exciting star and nebular scattered light in the FUV bandpass. These data show a rise in the ratio of nebular surface brightness to stellar flux of roughly two orders of magnitude towards shorter wavelengths across the bandpass of the instrument. A model of fluorescing molecular hydrogen ...
