A surface tension sub-grid model for phase interface dynamics

چکیده

This paper reports on the development of a model for the sub-filter surface tensioninduced motion of liquid/gas phase interfaces. A key feature of the proposed model is to take the sub-filter phase interface dynamics fully into account by employing a dual-scale approach. Instead of modeling the sub-filter phase interface geometry, it is resolved on an auxillary grid using the Refined Level Set Grid approach. The required sub-filter velocity field on the auxiliary grid is reconstructed solving a PDE in a narrow band surrounding the phase interface. With the fully resolved phase interface geometry available, all previously unclosed terms in the filtered Navier-Stokes equations can be directly closed using explicit filtering.

Development of a phase change model for volume-of-fluid method in OpenFOAM

In this present study, volume of fluid method in OpenFOAM open source CFD package will be extended to consider phase change phenomena with modified model due to condensation and boiling processes. This model is suitable for the case in which both unsaturated phase and saturated phase are present and for beginning boiling and condensation process needn't initial interface. Both phases (liquid-va...

A dual scale volume-of-fluid approach for modeling turbulent phase interface dynamics

In this report, a dual-scale modeling approach is presented to describe turbulent twophase interface dynamics in a Large Eddy Simulation spatial filtering context. To close the unclosed terms related to the phase interface arising from filtering the Navier-Stokes equation, a resolved realization of the phase interface is explicitly filtered. This resolved realization is maintained on a high res...

A Large Eddy Simulation Subgrid Model for Turbulent Phase Interface Dynamics

Modeling the Surface Tension and the Interface of Ten Selected Liquid Mixtures: Correlation, Prediction, and the Influence of Using Partial Molar Volume

This work investigates the modeling of the surface tension and the interface of liquid mixtures. Nine binary liquid mixtures of (DMSO+alcohols), (2-Propanol+2,2,4-trimethylpentane), (Tetrahydrofuran+2-Propanol), (Tetrahydrofuran+2,2,4-trimethylpentane), and (ethano+glycerol) are considered. Additionally, one ternary liquid mixture of (Tetrahydrofuran+2-Propanol+2,2,4-trimethylpenta...

نگاشت همدیس در طرح‌های انگشتی سافمن- تیلور

We studied the growth of viscous fingers as a Laplacian growth by conformal mapping. Viscous fingers grow due to Saffman-Taylor instability in the interface between two fluids, when a less viscous fluid pushes a more viscous fluid. As there was an interest in the rectangular Hele-Shaw cell, we solved the Laplacian equation with appropriate boundary conditions by means of conformal mapping tech...
