Hemorheological abnormalities in human arterial hypertension

چکیده
Blood rheology is impaired in hypertensive patients. The alteration involves blood and plasma viscosity, and the erythrocyte behaviour is often abnormal. The hemorheological pattern appears to be related to some pathophysiological mechanisms of hypertension and to organ damage, in particular left ventricular hypertrophy and myocardial ischemia. Abnormalities have been observed in erythrocyte membrane fluidity, explored by fluorescence spectroscopy and electron spin resonance. This may be relevant for red cell flow in microvessels and oxygen delivery to tissues. Although blood viscosity is not a direct target of antihypertensive therapy, the rheological properties of blood play a role in the pathophysiology of arterial hypertension and its vascular complications.

Hemorheological effects of sodium fluorescein in rats.
Sodium fluorescein is widely used in clinical practice for the study of the retinal circulation by angiography. It has been reported several hemorheological and microvascular abnormalities induced by this compound. The aim of this work was to analyse the hemorheological effects of intravenous sodium fluorescein in an animal model. Twenty male 10-16 weeks-old Wistar rats were used, under systemi...
متن کاملAcute problems of the hemorheological analysis.
Clinical hemorheology is purposefully developing in the recent decades and its active role becomes increasingly significant for the biomedical research and medical practice. The progress in this field is primarily related to the fact that new experimental and clinical data, that are steadily accumulated, prove that hemorheological disorders play a most significant role in development of such pa...
متن کاملHigher Daily Physical Activity Level Is Associated with Lower RBC Aggregation in Carotid Artery Disease Patients at High Risk of Stroke
Aim: Carotid artery disease (CAD) is an atherosclerotic inflammatory disease that affects the arterial wall, specifically at points of bifurcation where blood flow is disturbed. Abnormal blood rheology could participate in the pathophysiology of ischemic cardiovascular disease. Physical activity (PA) is known to improve blood rheology in several chronic disorders. This study aims to (i) compare...
متن کاملHemorheological factors in cerebral ischemia.
We investigated 100 consecutive cerebral ischemia patients for hemorheological alterations. We measured whole and adjusted blood viscosity at 75 and 1,500 sec-1, plasma viscosity, red blood cell aggregation by the zeta sedimentation ratio, and red blood cell deformability using the centrifugal deformability technique. Patients were studied within 72 hours of the acute ischemic event, and 66 wer...
