چکیده

We present a methodology for promoting situational awareness of an enterprise network using only network artifacts discernible from network protocol logs. We utilized latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) over two corpora, the first composed of search queries and the second composed of external domain names issued by enterprise users through the network proxy of a mid-sized enterprise network. We not only quantitatively demonstrate that the LDA topic modeling approach achieves superior fit to the data than do naı̈ve models, but we also demonstrate that a topic modeling approach yields qualitative business analytic information.

Latent Semantic Social Graph Model for Expert Discovery in Facebook

Expert finding systems employ social networks analysis and natural language processing to identify candidate experts in organization or enterprise datasets based on a user’s profile, her documents, and her interaction with other users. Expert discovery in public social networks such as Facebook faces the challenges of matching users to a wide range of expertise areas, because of the diverse hum...

Predicting Friendship Links in Social Networks Using a Topic Modeling Approach

In the recent years, the number of social network users has increased dramatically. The resulting amount of data associated with users of social networks has created great opportunities for data mining problems. One data mining problem of interest for social networks is the friendship link prediction problem. Intuitively, a friendship link between two users can be predicted based on their commo...

Mining User Interests from Personal Photos

Personal photos are enjoying explosive growth with the popularity of photo-taking devices and social media. The vast amount of online photos largely exhibit users’ interests, emotion and opinions. Mining user interests from personal photos can boost a number of utilities, such as advertising, interest based community detection and photo recommendation. In this paper, we study the problem of use...

Exploring Wikipedia and DMoz as Knowledge Bases for Engineering a User Interests Hierarchy for Social Network Applications

The outgrowth of social networks in the recent years has resulted in opportunities for interesting data mining problems, such as interest or friendship recommendations. A global ontology over the interests specified by the users of a social network is essential for accurate recommendations. We propose, evaluate and compare three approaches to engineering a hierarchical ontology over user intere...

Characterization of Latent Social Networks Discovered through Computer Network Logs

The collection of true and complete measurements for social network analysis is often limited and costly. Indirect measurements from electronic data sources have opened new avenues for extracting valuable information on social patterns. While the analysis of proximity data and email communication are a few data sources that have been heavily studied, the analysis of computer network logs and th...
