Applying multiobjective evolutionary algorithms in industrial projects
نویسنده
چکیده
During the recent years, multiobjective evolutionary algorithms have matured as a flexible optimization tool which can be used in various areas of real-life applications. Practical experiences showed that typically the algorithms need an essential adaptation to the specific problem for a successful application. Considering these requirements, we discuss various issues of the design and application of multiobjective evolutionary algorithms to real-life optimization problems. In particular, questions on problem-specific data structures and evolutionary operators and the determination of method parameters are treated. As a major issue, the handling of infeasible intermediate solutions is pointed out. Three application examples in the areas of constrained global optimization (electronic circuit design), semi-infinite programming (design centering problems), and discrete optimization (project scheduling) are discussed.

Evolutionary Winch Design Using An Online Winch Prototyping Tool
This paper extends the work of a concurrent paper on an intelligent winch prototyping tool (WPT) that is part of a generic and modular software framework for intelligent computer-automated product design. Within this framework, we have implemented a Matlab winch optimisation client (MWOC) that connects to the WPT and employs four evolutionary optimisation algorithms to optimise winch design. Th...
متن کاملMultiobjective Optimization Using Evolutionary Algorithms - A Comparative Case Study
Since 1985 various evolutionary approaches to multiobjec-tive optimization have been developed, capable of searching for multiple solutions concurrently in a single run. But the few comparative studies of diierent methods available to date are mostly qualitative and restricted to two approaches. In this paper an extensive, quantitative comparison is presented, applying four multiobjective evolu...
متن کاملEvolutionary Multiobjective Optimization Algorithms For Induction Motor Design – A Study
Due to robustness, reliability, low price and maintenance free, Induction Motors (IMs) are used in most of the industrial applications. The influence of these motors (in terms of energy consumption) in energy intensive industries is significant in total input cost. This paper presents a review of Multiobjective Optimization (MO) in the design optimization of Induction Motor. The study is segmen...
متن کاملMultiobjective Evolutionary Induction of Subgroup Discovery Fuzzy Rules: A Case Study in Marketing
This paper presents a multiobjective genetic algorithm which obtains fuzzy rules for subgroup discovery in disjunctive normal form. This kind of fuzzy rules lets us represent knowledge about patterns of interest in an explanatory and understandable form which can be used by the expert. The evolutionary algorithm follows a multiobjective approach in order to optimize in a suitable way the differ...
متن کاملEnhancing rule-based scheduling in wafer fabrication facilities by evolutionary algorithms: Review and opportunity
Scheduling is a critical and challenging task in manufacturing systems, especially in largescale complex systems like wafer fabrication facilities. Although evolutionary algorithms (EAs) have demonstrated many successful applications in the field of manufacturing scheduling, there are very few studies on scheduling of wafer fabs using EAs. Dispatching rules are one of the most common techniques...
