چکیده

In this paper, the performance and characteristics of the execution of various join-trees on a parallel DBMS are studied. The results of this study, are a step into the direction of the design of a query optimization strategy that is t for parallel execution of complex queries. Among others, synchronization issues are identiied to limit the performance gain from parallelism. A new hash-join algorithm, called Pipelining hash-join is introduced that has fewer synchronization constraints than the known hash-join algorithms. Also, the behavior of individual join operations in a join-tree is studied in a simulation experiment. The results show that the Pipelining hash-join algorithm yields a better performance for multi-join queries. Also, the format of the optimal join-tree appears to depend on the size of the operands of the join: A multi-join between small operands performs best with a bushy schedule; larger operands are better oo with a linear schedule. The results from the simulation study are connrmed with an analytic model for dataaow query execution.

Implementation of the direction of arrival estimation algorithms by means of GPU-parallel processing in the Kuda environment (Research Article)

Direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of audio signals is critical in different areas, including electronic war, sonar, etc. The beamforming methods like Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR), Delay-and-Sum (DAS), and subspace-based Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) are the most known DOA estimation techniques. The mentioned methods have high computational complexity. Hence using...

Ultra-Low-Energy DSP Processor Design for Many-Core Parallel Applications

Background and Objectives: Digital signal processors are widely used in energy constrained applications in which battery lifetime is a critical concern. Accordingly, designing ultra-low-energy processors is a major concern. In this work and in the first step, we propose a sub-threshold DSP processor. Methods: As our baseline architecture, we use a modified version of an existing ultra-low-power...

Process algebraic modeling of authentication protocols for analysis of parallel multi-session executions

Many security protocols have the aim of authenticating one agent acting as initiator to another agent acting as responder and vice versa. Sometimes, the authentication fails because of executing several parallel sessions of a protocol, and because an agent may play both the initiator and responder role in parallel sessions. We take advantage of the notion of transition systems to specify authen...

A Maude Framework for Cache Coherent Multicore Architectures

On shared memory multicore architectures, cache memory is used to accelerate program execution by providing quick access to recently used data, but enables multiple copies of data to co-exist during execution. Although cache coherence protocols ensure that cores do not access stale data, the organisation of data in memory and the scheduling of tasks may significantly influence the performance o...

Parallel Execution of kNN-Queries on in-memory K-D Trees

Parallel algorithms for main memory databases become an increasingly interesting topic as the amount of main memory and the number of CPU cores in computer systems increase. This paper suggests a method for parallelizing the k-d tree and its kNN search algorithm as well as suggesting optimizations. In empirical tests, the resulting modified k-d tree outperforms both the k-d tree and a paralleli...
