Drosophila Oogenesis: Generating an Axis of Polarity
نویسنده
چکیده
New studies of moesin function during Drosophila oogenesis show that Dmoesin tethers actin to the oocyte membrane. Interestingly, Dmoesin and an intact cortex are also required to stabilise ooycte polarity.

The Drosophila SDE3 Homolog armitage Is Required for oskar mRNA Silencing and Embryonic Axis Specification
Polarization of the microtubule cytoskeleton during early oogenesis is required to specify the posterior of the Drosophila oocyte, which is essential for asymmetric mRNA localization during mid-oogenesis and for embryonic axis specification. The posterior determinant oskar mRNA is translationally silent until mid-oogenesis. We show that mutations in armitage and three components of the RNAi pat...
متن کاملThe RNA-binding protein Squid is required for the establishment of anteroposterior polarity in the Drosophila oocyte.
The heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) Squid (Sqd) is a highly abundant protein that is expected to bind most cellular RNAs. Nonetheless, Sqd plays a very specific developmental role in dorsoventral (DV) axis formation during Drosophila oogenesis by localizing gurken (grk) RNA. Here, we report that Sqd is also essential for anteroposterior (AP) axis formation. We identified sqd in ...
متن کاملRegulation of somatic myosin activity by protein phosphatase 1β controls Drosophila oocyte polarization.
The Drosophila body axes are established in the oocyte during oogenesis. Oocyte polarization is initiated by Gurken, which signals from the germline through the epidermal growth factor receptor (Egfr) to the posterior follicle cells (PFCs). In response the PFCs generate an unidentified polarizing signal that regulates oocyte polarity. We have identified a loss-of-function mutation of flapwing, ...

متن کاملAn Egalitarian-BicaudalD complex is essential for oocyte specification and axis determination in Drosophila.
Genetic experiments suggest that polarization of the oocyte is linked directly to the initial cell fate determination that singles out the oocyte from its 15 sister cells. Specification of oocyte cell fate as well as establishment and maintenance of a polarized microtubule network within the Drosophila oocyte require the activity of the egalitarian (egl) and BicaudalD (BicD) genes. We have isol...
