چکیده

SUMMARY The peak in vivo rates of catabolism to ‘‘@ CO2 of 4 C and of @ C were delayed from 30 to 90 mm in rats when excess thymine or excess 5-cyanouracil were injected together with the labeled compound. The delay was greater with 5-cyanouradil, which is a known inhibitor of rat liver pyrimidine reductase. When the peak output of 1 4 CO2 was thus delayed , the total recovery of @ @ C decreased in respired CO2 but increased in the urine, largely as unchanged injected compound. This suggests that blocking the catabolism of pyrimidines can prolong significant circulating levels, although excretion via the urine may limit the maximum levels achieved.

Role of catabolism in pyrimidine utilization for nucleic acid synthesis in vivo.

The incorporation of pyrimidines into nucleic acids in vivo is increased by inhibition of pyrimidine catabolism with diazouracil. The utilization of iodouracil or thymine for DNA synthesis can be increased approximately 20-fold by simultaneous administration of diazouracil and a purine deoxyribonucleoside. The incorporation of iodouracil and thymine, when administered at high doses, is elevated...

Design and Synthesis of New Benzimidazole and Pyrimidine Derivatives as α-glucosidase Inhibitor

In an endeavor to find a novel series of antihyperglycemic agents, new benzimidazole and pyrimidine derivatives were successfully synthesized efficiently in high yield with high purity, starting from amino acids in the presence of phosphorus oxychloride (POCl3). The synthesized compounds were identified by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, FT-IR spectroscopic techniques and elemental analysis. All products were...

Synthesis, salvage, and catabolism of uridine nucleotides in boron-deficient squash roots.

Previous work has provided evidence that plants may require boron to maintain adequate levels of pyrimidine nucleotides, suggesting that the state of boron deficiency may actually be one of pyrimidine starvation. Since the availability of pyrimidine nucleotides is influenced by their rates of synthesis, salvage, and catabolism, we compared these activities in the terminal 3 centimeters of roots...
