چکیده

In this work an adaptive strategy for the phase space method [5] for traveltime tomography is developed. The method uses those geodesics/rays that produces smaller mismatch with the measurements first and continue on in the spirit of layer stripping without the need to specifically defining the layers physically. The adaptive approach improves stability, efficiency and accuracy. We then extend our method to reflection traveltime tomography by incorporating broken geodesics/rays, for which a jump condition has to be imposed at the broken point for the geodesic flow. In particular we show that our method can distinguish non-broken and broken geodesics in the measurement and utilize accordingly in reflection traveltime tomography. We demonstrate that our method can recover the convex (with respect to the underlying metric) hull of unknown obstacles as well as the metric outside the convex hull.

A level-set adjoint-state method for crosswell transmission-reflection traveltime tomography

S U M M A R Y We propose a level-set adjoint-state method for crosswell traveltime tomography using both first-arrival transmission and reflection traveltime data. Since our entire formulation is based on solving eikonal and advection equations on finite-difference meshes, our traveltime tomography strategy is carried out without computing rays explicitly. We incorporate reflection traveltime d...

Multiscale traveltime tomography

Nonuniqueness in traveltime tomographic velocity analysis is largely the result of insufficiency in model parameterization. Traditional tomography parameterizes the model with nonoverlapping cells. Such single-scale tomography (SST) from inverting traveltimes only may produce underdeterminacy at places of insufficient ray coverage. To cope with the poor and uneven ray coverage, a multiscale tom...

Wave-equation traveltime inversion

This paper presents a new traveltime inversion method based on the wave equation. In this new method, designated as wave-equation traveltime inversion (WT), seismograms are computed by any full-wave forward modeling method (we use a finitedifference method). The velocity model is perturbed until the traveltimes from the synthetic seismograms are best fitted to the observed traveltimes in a leas...

Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System application for hydrothermal alteration mapping using ASTER data

The main problem associated with the traditional approach to image classification for the mapping of hydrothermal alteration is that materials not associated with hydrothermal alteration may be erroneously classified as hydrothermally altered due to the similar spectral properties of altered and unaltered minerals. The major objective of this paper is to investigate the potential of a neuro-fuz...

3D image-domain wavefield tomography using time-lag extended images

Image-domain wavefield tomography is a technique that reconstructs the velocity model by extracting information from migrated images. In time-lag extended images, velocity model accuracy can be evaluated by reflection focusing error, which represents the traveltime residual in the image domain. The model is updated by minimizing an objective function similar to the one used by wave-equation tra...
