Abstract:

Using a reductionist approach, the motivational method for teaching scientific terminology aims at breaking down terms and their definitions into separate components, i.e. morphemes and their semantic features, rather than establishing a connection between terms and their definitions as holistic units. In other words, the ultimate goal of this method is achieving “semantic motivation,” (as opposed to “sign-to-sign motivation”) which involves a logical interface between each morpheme and its corresponding semantic features. The advantages of employing this method can be far-reaching in terms of its impact upon the learner’s ability to understand, analyze, and even produce scientific terms. Through a consistent implementation of the motivational method, not only will we be able to facilitate the learning of scientific concepts, their definitions, and relevant terms more effectively and systematically, but we can also empower the learners to use their productive thinking skills both to comprehend the existing terms (semasiological approach) and to coin new terms when encountering new concepts (onomasiological approach).

Scientific Software Testing: A Practical Example

Scientific applications perform numerical simulations of different natural phenomena in the filed of computational physics and chemistry, mathematics, informatics, mechanics, bioinformatics, etc. They are primarily developed for the scientific research community and usually they are used for simulating some I/O and data extensive experiments [Segal 2005]. The performance of such simulation expe...

A practical approach for successful small group teaching in medical schools with student centered curricula

There has been a paradigm shift in the teaching strategies fromdidactic or teacher-centered to more vibrant student centeredapproaches. For the last five decades, small group teaching(SGT) has been a hallmark of this reorientation of educationalstrategies especially in medical schools, which use problem-basedlearning as a core educational tool. The key strength of ...

Example Of Deductive Teaching Method

Deductive refers to a more teacher-centered approach to instruction, where inductive For a clearer understanding of these methods visit Dr. Bilash's page titled The lesson I have attached below is an example of an inductive approach. In the western world, deductive teaching approaches are common in A teacher writes on the board a few examples of simple present and simple past. (Using Inductive ...

A Method for Recovering Data From Failing Floppy Disks with a Practical Example

As floppy disks and other similar media age, they have a tendency to lose data because of the reduction in retention of electromagnetic fields over time associated with various environmental degradation factors. In attempting to read these disks, the coding techniques used to write them can be exploited along with the proposed fault mechanisms to demonstrate that repetitions of read attempts un...

Homocysteine and its disulfide derivatives: a suggested consensus terminology.

In recent years, there has been an upsurge of interest in elevation of the plasma concentration of homocysteine and closely related metabolites as an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease (reviewed, for example, in References 1 through 3). Homocysteine itself is a thiol(sulfhydryl-) containing amino acid, but in normal human plasma and other tissues, a variety of related disulfide ...
