Assessing SALTMED model for wheat experiments irrigated with basin and sprinkler systems
Authors
Abstract:
Comprehensive agricultural models are crucial for assisting several decision makingprocesses due to their capability for use under different conditions. SALTMED is a holisticgeneric model, which simulates yield, dry matter and soil water content under differentirrigation managements and systems. The aim of this study was to calibrate the SALTMEDmodel to simulate wheat yield, dry matter and soil water content of two different fieldexperiments using different irrigation amounts and systems, namely sprinkler and basinirrigation systems. For both irrigation systems, experimentation was conducted for twoconsecutive years. For the sprinkler irrigation system, three irrigation treatments (wet, mediumand dry) were considered. For the basin irrigation system, 50, 75 and 100% of the irrigationrequirement were applied as irrigation treatments. The SALTMED model reasonably predictedthe wheat yield and dry matter for both irrigation methods by small tuning of crop coefficientsand some growth parameters. Besides, a good agreement between observed and simulated soilmoisture content was obtained for both experiments with different irrigation treatments andsystems. Comparison of the soil moisture prediction for the two different irrigation methodsrevealed that the SALTMED model simulated the soil moisture content better under thesprinkler system. It is concluded that SALTMED model performed better under sprinklersystem rather than basin irrigation system.

assessing energy flow in rainfed and irrigated wheat fields of shahrekourd township under two tillage systems
introduction energy analysis of agricultural ecosystem is essential for sustainable production. the relation between agriculture and energy is very close. agriculture is an energy consumer and the energy supplier. agriculture’s use of energy is recognized in three external inputs: labor, machines, and fertilizers (connor et al., 2011). significant gains in energy efficiency were arisen in agric...
full textAssessing the Sodium Exchange Capacity in Rainfed and Irrigated Soils in the Mediterranean Basin Using GIS
The soil exchange complex consists of colloidal materials on which ion exchange phenomena occur allowing it to attract, retain, and exchange elements that have opposite electric charges. Since their mineral constituents (clay) and organic components (humus) are mainly of a negative nature retained or exchanged ion are predominantly cations. Historically, failing to monitor parameters like the e...
full textEcological experiments with model systems.
Some of the classic experiments in ecology have involved real organisms interacting in the laboratory, that is, model systems. Ecologists are increasingly using model systems to investigate problems of global environmental change and questions about the assembly, persistence, and stability of complex communities. Model laboratory systems are a halfway house between mathematical models and the f...
full textParametrizing Simple Model between Yield and Evapotranspiration for Amaranthus cruentus under Drip and Sprinkler Irrigations
Amaranthus cruentus, an annual vegetable crop, is known to be highly productive under rain-fed conditions and during the dry season when supplied with water. However, for good water management, there is need to accurately quantify the water consumed by the crop. This paper investigates the water use and biomass yield of differentially irrigated Amaranthus cruentus at different developmental sta...

In this paper, non parametric Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was subjected to the energy data of wheat producers in Punjab state, India, and technical, pure technical and scale efficiencies were calculated for farms both category wise and zone wise. The main objective was to determine the strength of the correlation between non-parametric efficiencies and indices such as energy ratio and speci...
