Abstract:

Introduction: As endotracheal intubation is the first action which must be done for serious and very ill patients , so any procrastination leads to dangerous consequences including aspiration and finally death. Routine method for endotracheal intubation is injection of intravascular diazepam- Pethidine and sometimes muscle relaxants , but these drugs in Patients with GCS under 7 cause more decrease in level of consciousness. Materials & Methods: In this clinical trial 60 patients who needed to intubation were divided into two groups of 30 patients randomly. The two groups were matched from view point of age, sex and weight. In the experimental group before endotracheal intubation, bilateral supralaryngeal and transtracheal nerves were blocked by lidocain 2% . In the control group, petidine – diazepam and lidocaine were administrated intravenously before intubation. Then the two groups were compared from view point of complications of intubation such as jaw resistance , vocal cord movement and bucking. Finding : Statistical test showed that Jaw resistance , vocal cord movement and bucking in the experimental group were lower than control group .This difference was statistically significant (P<0.001). Conclusion : According to the results, use of nerve block for intubation in Patients with GCS under 7 is suggested.

E#ect of Superior Laryngeal Nerve Block on Hemodynamic Changes during Endotracheal Intubation

32 patients undergoing elective orthopedic surgery under general anesthesia were randomly divided into 2 groups. 15 patients received bilateral superior laryngeal nerve block SLNB prior to the induction of general anesthesia Group B , and the other 17 patients did not Control: Group C . After induction of anesthesia with 2.0 mg kg of propofol and 0.2 mg kg of vecuronium, tracheal intubation was...

axillary nerve block in comparison with intravenous midazolam/fentanyl for painless reduction of upper extremity fractures.

the painful nature of fractures has made it inevitable to use various anesthetic techniques to reduce or immobilize fractured parts. in the present study, axillary nerve block was compared with intravenous midazolam/fentanyl to induce anesthesia for painless reduction of upper extremity fractures. the subjects in the present clinical trial consisted of 60 patients with upper extremity fractures...

A Comparison of 2% Lidocaine and Epinephrine with 3% Mepivacaine in Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block

The purpose of this study was evaluation of anesthesia success rate of 3% mepivacaine compared with 2% lidocaine 1/80000 epinephrine in inferior alveolar nerve block in thirty voluntary students. All of the subjects were healthy and had not received any medicament. They pariticipated for two appointments and each time randomly received an inferior alveolar nerve injection with one of the anesth...

Attenuation of haemodynamic responses to laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation with intravenous dexmedetomidine: A comparison between two doses

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Laryngoscopic manipulation and endotracheal intubation are noxious stimuli capable of producing tachycardia, arrhythmias and hypertension. The aim of this study was to arrive at an optimal dose of dexmedetomidine by comparing two doses with placebo to attenuate stress response during laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation. METHODS It was a randomised, prospective, double...

Awareness during endotracheal intubation: A comparison of ketamine and thiopentone.

As a result of a report suggesting an unacceptably high incidence (2%) of awareness during endotracheal intubation, two groups of patients were anaesthetized in a standard manner using a rapid induction technique. In one group of 38 patients anaesthesia was induced with thiopentone 3 mg/kg and in the other group of 39 patients anaesthesia was induced with ketamine 2 mg/kg. Suxamethonium 1 mg/kg...
