Abstract:

ABSTRACT: From 188 cases of scorpion stings in patients at the ages of one month to 60 years admitted to the University Hospitals , 43.1% were from rural and 56.9% from peri-urban areeas. 78.3% were admitted in the period of April to August .The lower parts of body were more exposed to the sting. Distribution of stings in both sex ( male and female ) was the same. Scorpions of Buthidae and Scorpionidae family are seen in khuzestan . From Buthidae 9 Genus and 11 Species and from Scorpionidae 2 Genus and 2 Species have been reported . The majority of Scorpion stings are Mesobuthus eupeus and Androctonus crassicauda from the family of Buthidae and Hemiscropius from Scorpionidae. In 23% the haemoglobin was under 10g/100 white blood cells. In 32.1% was above 10000/mm3 .35.8%had haemoglobinuria . In 19.3% the BUN was abnormality of BUN and haemoglobin. Potassium (k+) in 18.7% was under normal . The mortality was 8.6% and were bitten by Hemiscorpius leptours. The majority of patients who died had abnormal haemoglobin and haematocrit and also haemoglobinuria.
