Investigating barriers to athletic and non-athlete disability participation in sports activities (Case study: Qazvin)

Abstract:

Introduction: Exercise and physical activity are important for the health of people with disabilities and the athletes with disabilities have higher health and higher satisfaction with their lives than non-athletes with disabilities. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate barriers to the participation of athletes and non-athletes with disabilities in sports activities. Method: This research was descriptive correlation. The statistical population of this study was 380 athletic and non-athletic people with disabilities in Qazvin province. Of these, 181 of them were selected by sampling method as Morgan's table. Measurement of the questionnaire of barriers to participation of disabled people in sports activities of Pour-Zandi and Soltani was used to answer the questions. Friedman and independent t-test were used with spss 25 software and factor analysis software lisrel15. Results: The results of this test showed that barriers to places and facilities, family barriers, urban barriers, individual barriers and social and cultural barriers are ranked first to fifth, and between places and facilities, social and cultural barriers and urban barriers between people with disabilities Athletic and non-athletes had no significant difference (p>0.05). There was a significant difference between individual and family barriers between athletes and non-athletes. (p<0.05). Considering the descriptive findings in both family and personal barriers, the average non-athlete was more than the athlete's disability. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it is suggested that attention should be paid to the development of sports facilities and facilities, removal of urban barriers and awareness of families about the role of sport in the mental and physical health of disabled people.
