Abstract:

Equal channel multi angular pressing (ECMAP) process is the efficient method to enhance the productivity of ultra-fine grained (UFG) materials, by increasing process continuity and as a result decreasing process required time. Comparing repetitive ECAP method, in the same period, the number of passes can be done by ECMAP. In this article, ECMAP of AL strips in two typical annealed and as received conditions studied, and route C was selected as multi pressing route. Values of equivalent plastic strain (PEEQ) and micro-hardness in the cross section of ECMAPed strips obtained both by FE simulations and practical tests, correspondingly. These values also used for obtaining the inhomogeneity of produced ECMAPed strips. Furthermore, mechanical property for both as received and annealed strips before and after pressing, studied experimentally. Also, load-displacement curve during ECMAP process obtained by FEM. For FEM results validation, PEEQ calculated by the analytical method, too. Results show that there is good conformity between FE, analytical and practical results.

Hot and Cold Tensile Behavior of Al 6061 Produced by Equal Channel Angular Pressing and Subsequent Cold Rolling

The full annealing AA6061 aluminum alloy was subjected to severe plastic deformationvia the combination of equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) and cold rolling (CR) in order torefine its microstructure and to improve its mechanical properties. According to the results of hotand cold tensile tests, the combination of ECAP and CR significantly affected the final strengthand ductility of studied...

Size effect in equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) process

The influence of the sample size (diameter while keeping the length constant) in equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) of pure aluminum is examined using finite element method (FEM) and experiment. Different sized aluminum rods were processed via ECAP and the effect of sample size on the strain homogeneity, process load, and the ratio of the friction to the total force were evaluated. The resul...

Re-strengthening in AA6063 Alloy During Equal Channel Angular Pressing

Equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) is carried out using two different configurations for the exit channel of the ECAP die, i.e., relieved and choked, with angles of 0.2 °. It is found that using a die with relieved exit channel, the sample was extruded for 6 passes with no surface cracks and an average cell size of 727 nm and a fraction of high angle grain boundaries of 54 % were achieved. M...

EFFECT OF POST-DEFORMATION ANNEALING TREATMENT ON INTERFACE PROPERTIES AND SHEAR BOND STRENGTH OF Al-Cu BIMETALLIC RODS PRODUCED BY EQUAL CHANNEL ANGULAR PRESSING

Effects of annealing treatment after equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) on the interface properties and shear bond strength of Al/Cu bimetallic rods were investigated. For the as-deformed samples, the one with two passes of ECAP indicated higher shear bond strength. Formation of a layer of intermetallic compounds after annealing treatment is confirmed. In general, by increasing annealing tem...

High Temperature Deformation of Twin-Roll Cast Al-Mn-Based Alloys after Equal Channel Angular Pressing

Twin roll cast Al-Mn- and Al-Mn-Zr-based alloys were subjected to four passes of equal channel angular pressing. The resulting grain size of 400 nm contributes to a significant strengthening at room temperature. This microstructure is not fully stable at elevated temperatures and recrystallization and vast grain growth occur at temperatures between 350 and 450 °C. The onset of these microstruct...

Parameter Analysis and optimization of equal channel angular pressing extrusion for titanium alloy using Taguchi design of experiments method

In this paper the influence of different parameters on equal channel angular pressing (EADAP) of titanium alloy is investigated. In the first step the most important parameters are selected, and then a table of experiments is designed using Taguchi method. After designing the table of experiments, all of the experiments are simulated using Abacus software and the results are optimized using Tag...
