Modular Multilevel Current Source Inverter Using Two-Switch Basic Units

author

Abstract:

This article is an introduction of a new topology of current source inverter (CSI) which can be alternatively implemented in low/medium power applications. This configuration is organized from series connected sub-multilevel inverters blocks. The basis of the recommended multilevel topology is the connections of many cell units in a decent scheme with the help of H-bridge inverter. The suggested inverter produces desired DC current levels with the value of positive and negative. In the recommended configuration, the number of DC current sources, switches and the related gate drive circuits in comparison with the traditional multilevel inverters are lowered. Consequently, cost and volume is decreased in the suggested topology. In order to investigate the suggested structure of the multilevel inverter, the simulation and experimental results for a single-phase 7-level inverter are prepared and indicated.

A Generalized Modular Multilevel Current Source Inverter

This paper proposes a novel topology of multilevel current source inverter which is suitable to apply in low/medium voltage. The proposed topology is capable of producing desirable bidirectional output current levels. Furthermore, it can employ symmetrical DC current sources as well as asymmetrical ones which is a significant advantage. Asymmetrical mode makes it possible to generate a great nu...

Design and Implementation of a New Switch-Diode based Single Source Multilevel Inverter Topology

Multilevel inverters are a new generation of DC-AC converters at medium and high voltage and power levels. These converters have made great strides in the use of industrial applications compared to conventional two-level inverters due to lower harmonic distortion, filter size, EMI and dv/dt. Besides these merits, some disadvantages can be mentioned such as more power electronics devices and com...

Dynamic Compensation of Electrical Power Systems Using Multilevel Voltage Source Inverter

A New Static Var Generator (SVG), using cascaded full-bridge inverters (FBI) with binary output levels and the parallel connections of two cascaded inverters by means of current sharing reactor in each phases is introduced. The new M-level inverter, where M is 2n+2 - 3, consists of only 2n single-phase full bridges for each phases. The proposed technique not only increases the current capacity ...

Cascaded Multilevel Inverters with Reduced Structures Based on a Recently Proposed Basic Units: Implementing a 147-level Inverter

A multilevel inverter is capable of generating high-quality stepwise pseudo-sinusoidalvoltage with low THD , applicable to high-power and high-voltage systems. These types of topologiesmay require a large number of switches and power supplies. This leads to much cost, large size, andcomplicated control algorithms. Thus, newer topologies are being proposed to decrease the numberof power electron...

High Frequency Transformer Isolated Quasi Z-Source Cascade Multilevel Inverter

In this paper, a new structure of HFTI-qZS-CMI has been proposed. The proposed structure is capable of generating high-voltage for medium to high power applications. By adding a switch, a capacitor and a high-frequency transformer and also eliminating an inductor from each qZS-CMI cell, the HFTI-qZS-CMI structure will be created. Using the high-frequency transformer in the proposed structure, l...
