Abstract:

Background & objectives: One of the biggest concerns about the increasing development of the mining industries, especially in the dry and tropical regions, is their high water consumption and, consequently, the serious threat to the local water resources as well as the impacts of these industrieschr('39') pollution on the environment and other downstream water resources. Therefore, it is necessary to make appropriate decisions and take appropriate measure to manage water consumption in the mining industry. However, the presentation of any operational plan to control water use in such industries depends on the planned and scientific monitoring of water consumption over specific periods. Methods: In this study, water consumption monitoring in the Gohar-Zamin Iron Ore Complex (Sirjan, Iran) was investigated for the first time using Shewhart statistical monitoring method. For this purpose, water consumption data of the plantchr('39')s dual processing lines were collected and organized during one year of operation to develop the control charts. Results: The results show that in different months of the year, water consumption can be independent of the weather conditions or the factory production. Moreover, the cumulative diagrams show that the trend of water consumption in the two lines is almost opposite to each other and each month with increasing water consumption of one line, water consumption of the other line has decreased. Conclusion: To alleviate these problems, expediting the construction of tank No.2 was proposed as the best operational solution for independent water consumption of each processing line.

environmental effects of gol-e-gohar iron ore mine on groundwater of the area

gol-e-gohar iron ore mine of sirjan in southern part of iran is a large open pit that operates below the groundwater table and during mining operation, dewatering is required to prevent operation processes from flooding. current operation is going on by digging wells in or out of the pit and pumping to prevent flooding. as a result of the former dewatering operation a vast deep cone of depressi...

Estimation in Shewhart control charts

The influence of the estimation of parameters in Shewhart control charts is investigated. It is shown by simulation and asymptotics that (very) large sample sizes are needed to accurately determine control charts if estimators are plugged in. Correction terms are developed to get accurate control limits for common sample sizes in the in-control situation. Simulation and theory show that the new...

Analysis of inadequate cervical smears using Shewhart control charts

BACKGROUND Inadequate cervical smears cannot be analysed, can cause distress to women, are a financial burden to the NHS and may lead to further unnecessary procedures being undertaken. Furthermore, the proportion of inadequate smears is known to vary widely amongst providers. This study investigates this variation using Shewhart's theory of variation and control charts, and suggests strategies...

Nonparametric Shewhart-type Quality Control Charts in Fuzzy Environment

Nonparametric control charts are presented in order to figure out the problem of detecting changes in the process median (or mean)‎, ‎or changes in the variability process where there is limited knowledge regarding the underlying process‎. ‎When observations are reported imprecise‎, ‎then it is impossible to use classical nonparametric control charts‎. ‎This paper is devoted to the problem of c...

Occupational and biological monitoring of workers exposed to airborne dust in Gol-e-Gohar Iron Ore mine: A Case-Control Study

Background and aims: Mining is categorized with considerable exposure to airborne contaminations. Regarding the high prevalence of diseases and the high population of workers in iron ore mines, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of miners’ exposure to respirable dust compounds on the serum Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Methods: In this study, 92 non-smoker healthy workers of G...

A Novel Clustering Approach for Estimating the Time of Step Changes in Shewhart Control Charts

Although control charts are very common to monitoring process changes, they usually do not indicate the real time of the changes. Identifying the real time of the process changes is known as change-point estimation problem. There are a number of change point models in the literature however most of the existing approaches are dedicated to normal processes. In this paper we propose a novel app...
