Abstract:

SUMMARY Monoclonal Antibodies are identical antibodies and Can be generated in ultimated amounts by countinuos cultures of single antibody- secreting cells. These cell lines are produced by cell fusion of normal lymphocytes to cells of a myeloma tumor cell line, which confers on the antibody producing hybrid cell, immortality and the ability grow as atumor in animals. monoclonal antibodies can be produced to impure antigens. these antibodies are replacing polyclonal antisera in immunologic assays and are being widely applied to the study of the pathogenesis and to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

MONOCLONAL ANTIBODIES TO HUMAN ALPHA-FETOPROTEIN

Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), a serum glycoprotein belonging to the onco-developmental proteins group, serves as a marker both in cancer research and in studies concerning fetal development and fetal pathophysiology. Monoclonal anti-AFP antibodies are essential reagents in developing appropriate techniques for measurement of this protein. In this study, in order to produce anti-AFP monoclonal a...

Monoclonal Antibodies as Therapeutic Agents: Advances and Challenges

Despite the major advances in conventional forms of treatment (i.e. surgical techniques, radiotherapy and chemotherapy) and improved survival rates, cancer is still the second leading cause of death in developing countries. One major limitation of cytotoxic drugs and radiation in the treatment of cancer patients is their inability to discriminate between malignant and normal tissues. This in tu...

Identification of Leishmania species using monoclonal antibodies in Isfahan

Background: Isfahan is one of the major foci of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Iran. According to the epidemiological studies, both urban and rural forms have been reported in Isfahan. Accurate identification and characterization of Leishmania is essential for the control of the disease. Several different molecular techniques for Leishmania identification are developed including use of monoclonal a...

Monoclonal Antibodies

Antibodies bind other molecules strongly and specifically and are therefore useful as reagents in research, diagnosis and therapy. Antibodies taken from the blood of immunised animals are a mixture of different antibodies produced by different cells (they are described as polyclonal). Monoclonal antibodies are antibodies with a unique specificity, generally made by cloning cells containing a pa...

Monoclonal Antibodies

E l ec t ron microscopy f i r s t r evea led the presence of filamentous structures intermediate in diameter between microfilaments (5-6 nm) and microtubules (20-25 nm) in eukaryotic cells. These intermediate, or 10-nm, filaments have subsequently been shown to compr ise f ive s e p a r a t e classes, distinguishable on the basis of their sub-unit molecular weights) t i ssue distr ibution~ and ...
