Abstract:

The effects of nitrogen (N) addition on productive and physiological traits of Triticumdicoccum were assessed under two N levels (0, unfertilized, and 90 kg N ha−1) in fieldconditions, in two growing seasons. In the study case, the N supply (90 kg N ha−1) was appliedin three-split applications (20% at pre-plant stage, 40% at tillering stage, 40% at stemelongation). In unfertilized conditions, the productive and physiological traits were consistentlyreduced in comparison with fertilized treatments. Indeed, control plots showed lowergrain yield, biomass and protein content (about 42, 44 and 19%, respectively) and lowerphotosynthetic activity at light saturation level (25%) than fertilized plots. The stomatalconductance was 34.2% and 70.8% lower in unfertilized plots than in fertilized those, in the firstand second year, respectively. No significant differences for the Ci/Ca ratio were evidentbetween treatments. Emmer physiological and yield performances were affected by N supply, although the crop plasticity to N availability was emphasized.

Regeneration from mature and immature embryos and transient gene expression via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation in emmer wheat (Triticum dicoccum Schuble).

The present study establishes a regeneration protocol and optimizes conditions for Agrobacterium-mediated transformation of the tetraploid emmer wheat, Triticum dicoccum. Regeneration from mature and immature embryos was accomplished as a two-step process involving callus induction in the presence of 2,4-D followed by regeneration on a 2,4-D free, cytokinin-containing medium (RM1). Higher conce...

Identification of Differently Regulated Proteins after
Fusarium graminearum Infection of Emmer (Triticum dicoccum) at Several Grain Ripening Stages.

This study was conducted to improve the knowledge of molecular processes involved in the interaction between Fusarium graminearum and emmer in the course of grain ripening. Emmer plants were artificially inoculated with a F. graminearum spore suspension at anthesis. In the course of grain ripening from milk ripe to plant death stage, grains at four phenological growth stages were collected for ...

Effect of nitrogen levels and nitrogen ratios on lodging resistance and yield potential of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Lodging is one of the constraints that limit wheat yields and quality due to the unexpected bending or breaking stems on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) production worldwide. In addition to choosing lodging resistance varieties, husbandry practices also have a significant effect on lodging. Nitrogen management is one of the most common and efficient methods. A field experiment with Yangmai 20 as r...
