Abstract:

Two poly(oxyethylene) derivatives 1.10-bis(2'-benzoic acid)-1,4,7,1-tetradecane (L1) and 1,7-bis(2'-benzoic acid)-1,4,7-trioxaheptane (L2) were used as suitable ionophores for the preparation of potassium-selective PVC-membrane electrodes. The resulting electrodes based on L1 and L2 exhibit linear responses to the activity of K+ ions within the concentration ranges of 3.1´10-5 -2.7´10-2 M and 2.0´10-5-7.3´10-2 M with the slopes of 61.8 and 62.6 V per decade, respectively. The electrodes show relatively fast response times of 25-30 s and can be used for at least 3 months without any considerable divergence in potential. The working pH range of the electrodes is 3-11. The selectivity coefficients of the electrodes for potential interfering cations including alkali, alkaline earth and transition metal ions are reported.

Silver ion recognition using potentiometric sensor based on recently synthesized isoquinoline-1,3-dione derivatives

The four derivatives of isoquinoline-1,3-dione based on β-lactum (I-IV), have been explored as neutral ionophores for preparing poly(vinylchloride) based polymeric membrane electrodes (PME) selective to silver(I) ions. The addition of sodium tetraphenylborate (NaTPB) and dioctylsebacate (DOS) as a plasticizer was found to improve the performance of ion selective electrodes. The best performance...

Cobalt(II)-selective membrane electrode based on a recently synthesized benzo-substituted macrocyclic diamide.

A PVC-membrane electrode based on a recently synthesized 18-membered macrocyclic diamide is presented. The electrode reveals a Nernstian potentiometric response for Co2+ over a wide concentration range (2.0 x 10(-6)-1.0 x 10(-2) M). The electrode has a response time of about 10 s and can be used for at least 2 months without any divergence. The proposed sensor revealed very good selectivities f...

Highly Selective Perchlorate Membrane Electrode Based on Synthesized Schiff Base Complex

In this work we introduce a practical use of synthesized Schiff base metal complex in sensing application. A new perchlorate-selective electrode based on the complex N, N'-4-nitro-phenylmethanebis-(salicylaldiminato) copper (II) [CuL] as the membrane carrier was developed. The electrode exhibits a good  Nernstian slope of -55.0 ± 1.0 mV/decade and a linear range of  for perchlorate. The lim...

Samarium (III) Selective Membrane Sensor Based on Tin (IV) Boratophosphate

A number of Sm (III) selective membranes of varying compositions using tin (IV) boratophosphate as electroactive material were prepared. Polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene and epoxy resin were used as binding materials. Membrane having composition of 40% exchanger and 60% epoxy resin exhibited best performance. This membrane worked well over a wide concentration range of 1x10M to 1x10 M of samariu...
