Abstract:

We utilize isotherm models in contributing to scholarly knowledge in simple terms, to measure the forces or energy defining certain adsorption phenomenon. Gas Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectrophotometer detector (GCMS) was utilized to measure equilibrium phase atrazine after adsorption onto Shea nut Shells (SS) acid derived activated carbon. Data were fitted into the D-R and Temkin isotherm relationships for energy data estimation of Sorption energy value (BD), mean free energy (ED) and heat of sorption (B). They were estimated as 0.7600mol2KJ-2, 0.8111 kjmol-1 and  0.790Jmol-1 respectively. The parameter predicting  the type of adsorption was evaluated BD , B < 20kJ/mol and ED2 = 0.979 proves a better choice in explaining sorption energies. Generally, shea nut shells can be used as alternative precursors for activated carbon production via the two steps and acid treatment method..

Sorption of Atrazine, Propazine, Deethylatrazine, Deisopropylatrazine and Hydroxyatrazine onto Organovermiculite

Sorption of atrazine, alachlor and trifluralin from water onto different geosorbents

10 The sorption behavior of the herbicides atrazine, alachlor and trifluralin on four sorbents (two 11 modified organoclays, one model sediment, and one natural sediment) in three water matrices 12 (synthetic water, natural groundwater and surface water) was investigated. The influence of 13 the sorbent and water matrix characteristics was elucidated. All adsorption isotherms fitted 14 well wit...

Effects of Vitellaria paradoxa (C.F. Gaertn.) aqueous leaf extract administration on Salmonella typhimurium-infected rats

BACKGROUND The present study investigates the effects of Vitellaria paradoxa crude extract administration on Salmonella typhimurium infected Wistar rats. METHODS Rats were infected by single dose oral administration of Salmonella typhimurium (1.5×108 CFU). Negative control groups were infected and treated orally with distilled water (vehicle), neutral control group were not infected, while th...

Galloylated proanthocyanidins from shea (Vitellaria paradoxa) meal have potent anthelmintic activity against Ascaris suum.

Proanthocyanidins (PA) from shea (Vitellaria paradoxa) meal were investigated by thiolytic degradation with benzyl mercaptan and the reaction products were analysed by high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. These PA were galloylated (≈40%), contained only B-type linkages and had a high proportion of prodelphinidins (>70%). The mean degree of polymerisation was 8 (i.e. average...

Optimization of Shea (Vitellaria paradoxa) butter quality using screw expeller extraction

The quality of Shea butter is highly affected by processing factors. Hence, the aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of conditioning duration (CD), moisture content (MC), and die temperature (DT) of screw expeller on Shea butter quality. A combination of 33 full factorial design and response surface methodology was used for this investigation. Response variables were refractive index, a...
