Statistical Optimization of Liquid Phase Oxidation of Benzyl Alcohol over Efficient Cobalt Promoted Vanadyl Pyrophosphate Catalysts by Box-Behnken Design

Authors

Abstract:

Vanadium phosphorus oxides (VPO) has been applied as a heterogeneous catalyst in gas phase oxidation reactions and its application is very limited in liquid phase. In this study a series of cobalt-doped vanadium phosphorus oxides (VPO-Co) catalysts with different loading of Co (0.01-1.0 mol ratio of Co/V) were prepared. Oxidation of benzyl alcohol was studied in the liquid phase over VPO and VPO-Co catalysts, using tert-butylhydroperoxide (TBHP) as an oxidant. These samples were characterized by XRD, SEM and Fouriertransform infrared (FT-IR) techniques. The optimal design of experiments using Box-Behnken method was employed to evaluate the effects of individual process variables (+1, 0, ‌1, levels) such as, reaction temperature (30, 60 and 90 °C), reaction time (30, 255 and 480 min) and molar ratio of Co/V (0, 0.5 and 1) and their optimum values were found to be 89.86 °C, 477.8 min and 0.64 molar ratio Co/V, respectively, to achieve a conversion of 65.44%.

Statistical modelling and analysis of the aerobic oxidation of benzyl alcohol over K-Mn/C catalysts

We report the application of statistical multivariate analysis to optimize the process parameters (including temperature, O2 pressure, concentration of benzyl alcohol, Mn content, and K:Mn molar ratio) in the oxidation of benzyl alcohol using molecular oxygen over K-Mn/C catalysts. This multi-regression model, based on 38 experimental runs, shows reasonably accurate prediction on the benzyl alc...

A Novel High Performance Liquid Chromatographic Method for Determination of Nystatin in Pharmaceutical Formulations by Box–Behnken Statistical Experiment Design

this study a novel High Performance Liquid Chromatography for the assay of nystatin in oral and vaginal tablets were optimized and validated using Box–Behnken experimental design. The method was performed in the isocratic mode on a RP-18 column (30 °C) using a mobile phase consisting of 0.05 M ammonium acetate buffer/ Methanol mixture (30:70) and a flow-rate of 1.0 ml/min. The method was valida...

Desulfurization of coal by HNO3 leaching: Optimization of influential factors using Box-Behnken design

Sulfur is one of the most significant impurities in coal, which reduces the quality of coal and also results in environmental pollution. This work was aimed to investigate the removal of sulfur from coal by the leaching method employing parameters expected to affect the removal rate such as acid concentration (10-30%), temperature (40-80 °C), and reaction time (40-100 min). A response surface m...

Optimization of Selenite Removal by Lactobacillus sp. Tra cheese 6 Using Box-Behnken Design

Background & Aims: High concentrations of selenite have carcinogenetic, cytotoxic and genotoxic effects. Therefore, removal of this toxic pullutant from the environment has a particular importance in maintaining public health. In this study, with the aim of optimization of selenite removal process, the design Box-Behnken method was used to estimate th...
