The flow hydrograph modeling using GIS and distributed hyrdological model, in Dinvar Watershed, Karkheh, Iran
Authors
Abstract:
In this paper, the modeling is based on division of the catchment into a grid mesh. Each cell has a unique response function independent of the functioning of other cells Summation of the flow responses from the cells, result the flow hydrograph from this area basin.A method is presented to simulation the flow hydrograph within a river basin using the hydrological model WetSpa. WetSpa is a GIS-based distributed hydrological model, which operates on catchment scale and developed for flood prediction and watershed management. The model is physically based and simulates hydrological processes of precipitation, snowmelt, interception, depression, surface runoff, infiltration, evapotranspiration, percolation, interflow, groundwater flow, etc. continuously both in time and space, for which the water and energy balance are maintained on each raster cell. The model combines topography, landuse and soil maps, and observed daily meteorological time series to predict discharge hydrographs and the spatial distribution of hydrological parameters in the catchment. The digital maps of topography, land use and soil type are 3 base maps used in the model in GIS form using 100×100m cell size. The model was applied on the Dinvar Watershed in the Karkheh river basin of Kermanshah, with 72 months of meteo-hydrological measurements. Results of the simulations show a good agreement between calculated and measured hydrographs at the outlet of the basin. The model predicts the daily hydrographs with a good accuracy, between 66% during the calibration according to the Nash-Sutcliff criteria and 72% during validation period by Kling-Gupta Efficiency.

Watershed hydrograph model based on surface flow diffusion
[1] Based on the diffusion equation and Darcy’s law, Criss and Winston (2008b) developed the one-parameter analytical subsurface flow diffusion hydrograph model to represent the theory of rapid displacement of ‘‘old’’ aquifer water and shallow pore water following rainfall events. We developed a two-parameter analytical surface flow diffusion hydrograph model for urban or other basins that gene...
full textFlood Hydrograph Estimation Using Watershed Bounded Network Model
Storage routing models are becoming more widely accepted for flood hydrograph synthesis. The network models represent a considerable advance in this direction even though these models are based on many assumptions and empirical relationships. Watershed Bounded Network Model (WBNM) is one such model. This model maintains a good relationship between the hydrological and geomorphological propertie...

Impact of Watershed Management activities on flood hydrograph Using HEC-HMS Model (Case Study: Ramyan Watershed)
Increasing the use of water and soil resources in watershed in recent years and unproductive and inappropriate use of land ecology has exacerbated the occurrence of floods. In this context, watershed management is one of the most effective ways to cope with this crisis. This research quantify the results of these activities by calculating the decreased volume and discharge due to biomechanical ...
full textHydrologic Modeling of the Bouregreg Watershed (Morocco) Using GIS and SWAT Model
The study of water resources at watershed scale is widely adopted as approach to manage, assess and simulate these important natural resources. The development of remote sensing and GIS techniques has allowed the use of spatially and physically based hydrologic models to simulate as simply and realistically as possible the functioning of watershed systems. Indeed, the major constraint that has ...
full textAssessment of the Monthly Water Balance in an Arid Region Using TM Model and GIS (Case Study: Pishkouh Watershed, Iran)
Monthly discharge is one of the most important factors considered in designs and hydrological works. Some watersheds are not equipped with needed hydrometric equipment. In such a case average monthly discharge could be estimated from regional monthly water balance models of representative watersheds. In this study, Thornthwaite & Mather (TM) model were used in the Pishkouh watershed in arid cli...
