Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating role of cognitive emotion regulation strategies on the relationship between emotional intelligence and teamwork performance. A total of 91 flight attendants and 34 pilots (49 women, 76 men) participated in this study. All participants were asked to complete Emotional Intelligence Scale (1997), Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (2006), and High-Performance Teamwork Scale (2007). For analyzing the data, Pearson correlation coefficient and analysis path are used. The results showed a significant positive relationship between emotional intelligence and teamwork performance (P<0.05). There were significantly positive and negative relationships between emotional intelligence and adaptive and non-adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies (P<0.05). Adaptive and maladaptive strategies of cognitive emotion regulation were also significantly associated with teamwork performance (P<0.05). The Pathway analysis showed that cognitive emotion regulation strategies have a mediator role in the relationship between emotional intelligence and teamwork performance. Based on the present study results, it can be concluded that high emotional intelligence in individuals in teamwork leads to the use of more adaptive cognitive-emotional regulation and ultimately increases team performance.
