چکیده مقاله:

We report a case of a 29-year-old man who presented with a distal humeral shaft fracture sustained by blunt trauma. Physicalexamination and nerve conduction study were consistent with injury to the median and radial nerves proximal to theelbow. The patient underwent open reduction and internal fixation of the humeral shaft fracture with neurolysis of the medianand radial nerves. Repeat electromyography at 6 months postoperatively showed recruitment of motor units in all musclessampled, in keeping with clinical improvement. At 16 months follow-up, the patient was full strength in all muscle groups, was back to all activities with no restrictions, and was discharged from follow-up. Our case describes clinical improvementafter surgical intervention in a patient with combined median and radial nerve palsies following distal humeral shaft fracture.

Secondary Radial Nerve Palsy after Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis of a Distal Humeral Shaft Fracture

Minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis is a widely used procedure for the treatment of fractures of the femur and the tibia. For a short time it is also used for the treatment of humeral shaft fractures. Among other advantages, the ambassadors of this technique emphasize the lower risk of nerve injuries when compared to open reduction and internal fixation. We report the case of secondary radi...

Delayed Radial Nerve Palsy after Closed Reduction of a Pediatric Humeral Shaft Fracture

Humeral shaft fractures are common in the United States and may be associated with radial nerve injuries due to their close anatomic relationship in the spiral groove. Most radial nerve palsies are found at presentation due to the initial trauma; however, they can present secondary to orthopaedic intervention following reduction. In this case report, we present a case of delayed radial nerve pa...

Intact radial and median nerve after open third degree distal fracture of the humerus.

A 54 year old man sustained a third degree open fracture at the distal part of the right humerus with massive soft tissue defect involving most of the upper arm. The radial and median nerves were completely bared and exposed by 6 cm for radial and 3 cm for median nerve. The nerves were in continuity, but there was complete rupture of surrounding muscles: biceps, triceps and brachialis. The frac...

Radial nerve injury associated with humeral shaft fracture: a retrospective study

OBJECTIVE To determine the profile of patients with humeral diaphyseal fractures in a tertiary hospital. METHODS We conducted a survey from January 2010 to July 2012, including data from patients classified under humeral diaphyseal fracture (S42.3) according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10). The variables analyzed were: age, gender, presence of radial nerve injury, cau...
