Axi-symmetric Stagnation–Point Flow and Heat Transfer Obliquely Impinging on a Rotating Circular Cylinder

نویسندگان

چکیده مقاله:

Laminar stagnation flow, axi-symmetrically yet obliquely impinging on a rotating circular cylinder, as well as its heat transfer is formulated as an exact solution of the Navier-Stokes equations. Rotational velocity of the cylinder is time-dependent while the surface transpiration is uniform and steady. The impinging stream is composed of a rotational axial flow superposed onto irrotational radial stagnation flow normal to the cylinder with strength Γ. The relative importance of these two flows is measured by a parameter γ. The governing parameters are the stagnation-flow Reynolds number Re = Γa2/2υ and the dimensionless transpiration S = U0/Γa, where a is cylinder radius, ν is kinematic viscosity of the fluid and U0 is the transpiration rate. An exact solution is obtained by reducing the Navier-Stokes equations to a system of differential equations governed by Reynolds number and the dimensionless wall transpiration rate. Dimensionless shear stresses corresponding to all the cases increase with the increase of Reynolds number and suction rate. Heat transfer is independent of cylinder rotation and its coefficient increases with the increasing suction rate, Reynolds number and Prandtl number.

Approximate analytic solutions for mixed convection heat transfer from a shear-flow past a rotating cylinder

Presented in this paper is an analytic approximation to the thermal-fluid problem involving mixed convective heat transfer from a rotating isothermal cylinder placed in a non-uniform stream shear flow. The approximation is obtained using a series expansion of the scaled boundary layer equations in terms of an appropriate boundary layer variable. The resulting approximation is valid both for sma...

Numerical investigation on the effects of six control rods arranged in equilateral triangular configurations on fluid flow and forced convection heat transfer from a circular cylinder

The present work deals with heat transfer characteristics as well as fluid flow patterns in laminar flow regime for a circular cylinder with six control rods arranged in equilateral triangular geometries. The computations have been carried out by a finite volume approach using the overset grid method. The unsteady flow at Re= 200 and Pr= 0.7 and 7.0 was examined. The effect of the control rods ...
