Ayatollah Khamenei and Reformism in Iran

AbstractIslamic Republic of Iran as an Islamic and independent country on original ideology of “Islam” announced freedom of political parties within the Constitution (Act, 26). After Islamic Revolution victory in 1979, two main factions formed, “Principlism” and “Reformism”. “Reformism” seems a challenging issue to Iranian nation as it may appear adopted on the Western ideology. This study carried out to remove any ambiguity on this issue to help politicians, scholars and common people. The research question was: what are Imam Khamenei’s measures for “Reformism” in Iran? And the research hypothesis was Imam Khamenei approves of “Reformism” in Iran based on some defined criteria. To do the study, the political thoughts of Imam Khamenei recorded as written texts contained “Reformism” were selected and obtained from the formal Website . The collected texts analyzed through “Discourse Analysis” to elicit and specify the measures for “Reformism” in Iran. The results are: “Reformism” is a real essential and required, and is to implement in the country; “Reformism” should be value directed and comply with principles of Islam and the Revolution; the exact definition of “Reformism” is required to specify the goals; the “Reformism” should be organized and controlled from a powerful and aware center according to Constitution foundation; comprehensiveness and concordance, reforms have to implement in all areas in the society synchronically; a tolerable and influential center should control the “Reformism” in order to avoid immethodical and the structure of the Constitution have to protected in “Reformism” issues.
