Comparison of the solubility of three resin cements and a resin-modified glass ionomer cement: An in vitro study
Background and aims: Solubility is an important property of luting cements in determining clinical durability. The aim of this study was to compare the solubility of Panavia, Calibra and Maxcem resin cements with that of GC Fuji PLUS resin modified glass ionomer cement in three different pH values. Materials and Methods: A total of 96 specimens were prepared (8mm diameter, 4mm thickness) according to manufacturer instructions. After setting, they were desiccated and weighed. The specimens were kept immersed in distilled water and lactic acid solution (pH values of 3 and 5) for 30 days and then removed and weighed again. Data were statistically analyzed by SPSS18 using two-way ANOVA with P≤0.05 set as the level of significance. Results: The results of this study showed no significant difference between three pH values (P=0.08). The Calibra resin cement had the lowest value of solubility in distilled water and both pH of lactic acid. GC Fuji PLUS resin modified glass ionomer cement had the highest value of solubility in lactic acid and the Maxcem resin cement had the highest value of solubility in water. Conclusion: The solubility characteristics of resin modified glass ionomer and three different resin cements were significantly affected by their composition and the storage condition.
Comparison of the Amount of Fluoride Release from Nanofilled Resin Modified Glass Ionomer, Conventional and Resin Modified Glass Ionomer Cements
OBJECTIVE To investigate and compare the amount of fluoride release of conventional, resin modified and nanofilled resin modified glass ionomer cements. MATERIALS AND METHODS Tablets of glass-ionomer cements were immersed in deionized water and incubated at 37°C. After 1, 2, 7, 15 and 30 days, fluoride ion was measured under normal atmospheric conditions by fluoride ion selective electrode. B...متن کامل
The Effect of Cigarette Smoking on Solubility and Disintegration of Resin Modified Glass Ionomer Cement – An In Vitro Study
Introduction: Glass ionomer cement (GIC) is a dental restorative material that is prone to solubility and degradation. GIC could degrade in presence of water and desiccation due to environmental factors during setting process and eventually might lead to the failure of the restoration. Cigarette smoking brings a complex chemical mixture to oral cavity that can inhibit polymeriz...متن کامل
To evaluate cytotoxicity of experimental conventional and resin modified glass-ionomer cements on UMR-106 osteoblast cell cultures and cell cultures of NIH(3)T(3) mouse fibroblasts specimens were prepared for every experimental material and divided into: group 1.Conventional glass-ionomer cements: GC Fuji IX GP Fast, GC Fuji Triage and Ketac Silver; group 2. Resin modified glass-ionomer cements...متن کامل
Do conventional glass ionomer cements release more fluoride than resin-modified glass ionomer cements?
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate the fluoride release of conventional glass ionomer cements (GICs) and resin-modified GICs. MATERIALS AND METHODS The cements were grouped as follows: G1 (Vidrion R, SS White), G2 (Vitro Fil, DFL), G3 (Vitro Molar, DFL), G4 (Bioglass R, Biodinâmica), and G5 (Ketac Fil, 3M ESPE), as conventional GICs, and G6 (Vitremer, 3M ESPE), G7 (Vitro Fil LC,...متن کامل

OBJECTIVES The biological effects of resin-modified glass-ionomer cements as used in clinical dentistry are described, and the literature reviewed on this topic. METHODS Information on resin-modified glass-ionomers and on 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), the most damaging substance released by these materials, has been collected from over 50 published papers. These were mainly identified t...متن کامل
