Detection of high impedance faults in distribution networks using Discrete Fourier Transform

نویسندگان

چکیده مقاله:

In this paper, a new method for extracting dynamic properties for High Impedance Fault (HIF) detection using discrete Fourier transform (DFT) is proposed. Unlike conventional methods that use features extracted from data windows after fault to detect high impedance fault, in the proposed method, using the disturbance detection algorithm in the network, the normalized changes of the selected features are used to compare the data windows after the fault occurrence and before the fault occurrence. It also uses the post-disturbance data windows and developing a decision system based on the output of the Support vector machines (SVM) classifier and compare the amount of certainty of other network events with high impedance fault, reliability and security of the proposed method have been improved. The proposed method is implemented on the IEEE 34 bus network in EMTP-RV software; the simulation results show 97.2% accuracy, 98.5% reliability, and 98.8% security.

Detection of High Impedance Faults Using Artificial Neural Networks

High impedance faults (HIF) on electric power distribution feeders are of a great concern to electric power utilities. These faults often occur when a bare conductor breaks and falls to ground through a high impedance current path [1]. Some HIFs draw sufficient current to be cleared by overcurrent protection, however, many HIFs draw only small amount of current, which makes them difficult to de...

High impedance fault detection: Discrete wavelet transform and fuzzy function approximation

This paper presets a method including a combination of the wavelet transform and fuzzy function approximation (FFA) for high impedance fault (HIF) detection in distribution electricity network. Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) has been used in this paper as a tool for signal analysis. With studying different types of mother signals, detail types and feeder signal, the best case is selected. The...

Characterization of High Impedance Faults in Solidly Grounded Distribution Networks

High Impedance Fault (HIF) detection is increasingly a concern of distribution network protection engineers. Practical methods to deal with HIFs are in great demand in the USA, where HIFs are not detected by conventional protection devices. The lack of a globally accepted description of HIFs is a difficulty for HIF detection. In the effort to understand and explain HIFs, we have carried out a t...

Wavelet Transform Based Algorithm for High- Impedance Faults Detection in Distribution Feeders

This paper presents a wavelet transform based technique for high-impedance faults detection in power distribution feeders. In this study, accurate electrical models for a HIF and capacitor switching event on a power network are developed and simulated using MATLAB. The analysis of the resulted fault signals, using the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) yields single-phase current and voltage in t...

Detection of power oscillation and simultaneous faults using Clark transform

Distance relays are widely used to protect transmission lines. Sometimes, in these lines due to the occurrence of the oscillation of the power, the impedance calculated in the distance relay enters into its functional zones and leads to the cutting off of the lines. This issue can cause global power outages. Accordingly, in this paper, a Clark-based method for detecting the oscillation of power...
