چکیده مقاله:

The purpose of this study was to describe the pattern of diffuse enhancement seen on contrast-enhanced MR images in patients with subacute infarction. A retrospective study of 104 patients with the diagnosis of stroke who had undergone contrast-enhanced MR scanning within2 weeks of the inciting neurological event revealed 66 patients who demonstrated different patterns of contrast-enhancement in the region of infarction. Diffuse enhancement was seen in the cerebellum and occipital regions in 12 patients. As this diffuse enhancement could be confused with enhancement seen in primary or metastatic tumors of the brain, the term "pseudotumor sign" was used for this type of enhancement. We concluded that subacute infarct should be included in the differential diagnosis of tumors when this imaging pattern is observed.

Automatic Contrast Enhancement of Brain MR Images Using Hierarchical Correlation Histogram Analysis

Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that has a higher probability of occurrence in middle-aged and older adults than in the young. With the use of a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system, abnormal cell regions can be identified, and this identification can help medical personnel to evaluate the chance of disease. This study proposes a hierarchical correlation histogr...

Value of subtraction images in the detection of hemorrhagic brain lesions on contrast-enhanced MR images.

Contrast-enhanced T1-weighted MR images are known to improve the detection and conspicuity of CNS lesions; however, lesion enhancement may be indistinguishable from contiguous hemorrhagic areas of intrinsically increased signal intensity. In a series of cranial MR studies in 22 pediatric oncologic patients with evidence of subacute hemorrhage, we found that subtracting the unenhanced from the e...

MR contrast enhancement of the normal neonatal brain.

PURPOSE To determine the pattern of enhancement on contrast-enhanced MR studies of the brain in neonates. METHODS Contrast-enhanced brain MR studies of 16 neonates were reviewed retrospectively. All infants had normal neonatal courses, normal noncontrast MR findings, and normal neurologic examinations at age 12 months. All enhancing regions within the brain, dura, calvaria, and orbits were re...

Enhancement of pineal cysts on MR images.

The six patients were imaged on either a 1.0or a 1.5-T MR unit . When pineal cysts > 7 mm were detected on sagittal images, 500/ 20/2 (TRITE/excitations) , of patients in the course of daily imaging procedures and contrast medium was administered, additional sagittal images (500/20) were obtained immediately and then 60-90 min later. The size of the cysts was 7-15 mm. All six patients were stud...

Image Enhancement Technique Applied to Low-field MR Brain Images

Image processing techniques are used to extract meaningful information from medical images. A major concern in denoising low-field MR brain images is the poor quality images secondary to a worsening signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) compared with the high-field MRI scanners. Low-field Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is vital in sensitive surgeries to allow real-time imaging in the operation theatre....

Adaptive Intuitionistic Fuzzy Enhancement of Brain Tumor MR Images

Image enhancement techniques are able to improve the contrast and visual quality of magnetic resonance (MR) images. However, conventional methods cannot make up some deficiencies encountered by respective brain tumor MR imaging modes. In this paper, we propose an adaptive intuitionistic fuzzy sets-based scheme, called as AIFE, which takes information provided from different MR acquisitions and ...
