چکیده مقاله:

Nowadays the surface texturing has been widely recognized as a usable capability to improve the tribological systems. In this paper, ultrasonic assisted turning (UAT) isperformed to create the micro textures on the flat faces. Micro surface texturing ismade on the Al7075-T6 by the UAT in the face turning process. Then, the influences of cutting speed feed, vibration direction and vibration amplitudeare studied. The effects of process parameterson the friction and wear behaviors of un-textured and textured patterns areinvestigated by the full factorial method. Microscopic images demonstrate the creation of micro dimples on the surfaces.Experimental results showed that textured surfaces can decrease the average friction coefficient and wear rate. The friction coefficient of surfaces generated by the UAT processwasdecreased about 10% in comparison to surfaces generated by conventional face turning. Moreover, because of existence of micro-dimple arrays in surfaces generated by the UAT process, proportion of contact between the pins and textured surfaces reduces. Cutting speed and feed effect on both of the average friction coefficient and wear rate.By increasingofthe cutting speed, feed, vibration amplitude and vibration direction (angle), the average friction coefficient and wear reduce.

Surface roughness and dry friction.

Persson's multiscale contact mechanics theory combined with a multiscale Brillouin-Prandtl-Tomlinson model is used to show that on the basis of these models "dry friction" [i.e., kinetic friction that remains at exceedingly small velocities (but still above the creep range) close to its value at higher velocities] should almost always occur for self-affine surfaces when the dominant interaction...

Effect of surface roughness on steel-steel dry friction coefficient

The influence of surface roughness magnitude and direction on dry static friction coefficient between two similar steel samples has been studied through an experiment. A testing apparatus has been designed and fabricated to measure the friction coefficient for a few forms of surface asperity. According to the results of the experiments, dry friction coefficient is affected by both magnitude and...

Development of a New Dynamic Friction Model for Analytical Modeling of Elliptical Vibration Assisted Turning Process

A new dynamic friction model for modeling of elliptical vibration assisted turning (EVAT) was developed in this research. The periodic change of the friction force direction is known to be one of the most important causes of this phenomenon. In modeling of machining processes (including the EVAT process), static Coulomb friction model was employed by most of the researchers. Because of the peri...
