چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: A number of studies have demonstrated that infectious mico organisms like helicobacter pylori may play a role in the process of atherosclerosis. We, here, aimed to investigate the effect of Helicobacter pylori DNA in atherosclerotic plaques in patients with coronary artery disease. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 85 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) in Jorjani heart center, Bandar Abbas, were enrolled. Using standard questionnaire, demographic and clinical data were gathered. Obtained specimens were processed and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was carried out. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS. Results: Helicobacter pylori DNA was detected within atherosclerotic plaques, in only 4 out of 85 patients (4.7%), where as, 3 out of 85 control specimens from internal mammary artery were positive for presence of the mentioned bacteria. There was no difference between atherosclerotic plaque and thoracic biopsy in terms of Helicobacter pylori DNA positivity. Conclusion: We did not find any association between the presence of Helicobacter pylori and development of atherosclerosis.

Detection of Helicobacter pylori in human carotid atherosclerotic plaques.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Several lines of evidence point toward a relationship between infection and atherosclerotic vascular disease. Thus, infection and inflammation often precede ischemic neurological events. Transient alterations in coagulation and direct arterial invasion by certain microorganisms have been reported. Helicobacter pylori infection is the major cause of peptic ulcer disease an...

DETECTION AND RESTRICTION ANALYSIS OF C YTOMEGALOVIRUS DNA PERSISTING IN HUMAN ATHEROSCLEROTIC PLAQUES USING POLYMERASE CHAIN REACTION

The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) as applied to detection of a foreign DNA in clinical specimens could provide a sensitive instrument for rapid detection of viral DNA persisting in tissues of patients suspected of latent infection. Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) DNA was found in arterial plaques of patients with atherosclerotic lesions using a PCR assay with nested primer oligonucleotides ...

Association between Helicobacter pylori Infection and Atherosclerotic Coronary Artery Disease

Background and Objectives: Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death in developed countries. In addition to traditional risk factors for cardiovascular disease, nowadays, accumulating evidence indicates that a variety of infections contribute to pathogenesis of atherosclerosis,  (We investigated whether Helicobacter pylori infection is related to Prevalence of coronar...

Prevalence of Atherosclerotic Plaques in Autopsy Cases with Noncardiac Death

Background and Objective: Ischemic heart disease (IHD) following atherosclerosis is the most common cause of cardiac deaths world wide. We aimed to investigate the pathologic features of atherosclerosis in non cardiac death cases to have an estimate of atherosclerosis prevalence in Mashad (North east of Iran). Patients and Methods : This descriptive (cross sectional) study was done, during ...

detection of genomic dna of chlamydia pneumonia in atherosclerotic plaques of coronary arteries

introduction: respiratory pathogen, chlamydia pneumoniae, has been implicated in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease. previous studies have demonstrated an antichlamydial seroresponse to be a cardiovascular risk factor and coronary atheromata to contain chlamyial components in varing proportions. endovascular demonstration of bacterial dna is required to provide evidence for an infectio...

Elevated levels of oxidative DNA damage and DNA repair enzymes in human atherosclerotic plaques.

BACKGROUND The formation of reactive oxygen species is a critical event in atherosclerosis because it promotes cell proliferation, hypertrophy, growth arrest, and/or apoptosis and oxidation of LDL. In the present study, we investigated whether reactive oxygen species-induced oxidative damage to DNA occurs in human atherosclerotic plaques and whether this is accompanied by the upregulation of DN...
