چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Recentlly, resistance to antibiotics has increased and antibiotic-resistant strains producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) have emerged among Enterobacteriaceae, mainly in Escherichia coli (E. coli). In this study we aimed to determine phenotypic and genotypic ESBL production in isolated E. coli from women with urinary tract infection (UTI). Materials and Methods: In total, 92 E. coli isolates were collected from patients with UTI. The antimicrobial susceptibility of all E. coli isolates were investigated. Morover, Mast D68C test and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were used for phenotypic and genotypic investigation of ESBLs in the studied isolates. Results: Totally, 92 isolates of E. coli were investigated, among which 51 (55.4%) isolates were resistant to cefotaxime/ceftazidime. Theise resistante isolates were included in the study. Among the resistant isolates, 40 (78.4%) cases were ESBL producers. Moreover, all the 40 isolates were observed with both CTX-M-15 and CTX-M-14 resistance genes. Conclusion: In general, high increasing prevalence of ESBL producer E. coil isolates of E. coil is a serious problem in the investigated region. Therefore, development of a rapid and simple method is essential to for the identification of various ESBL producer isolates.

Complicated urinary tract infection caused by extended spectrum β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli

With great interest, we read the article by Pacheco et al in the Journal of Microbiology, Immunology and Infection, which reported that multidrug-resistant, extended-spectrum b-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli is an important pathogen in nosocomial urinary tract infection, causing great concern in therapeutic failure. Here, we report a patient who was diagnosed with complicated urina...

A comparative study of the prevalence of extended-spectrum β-lactamaseproducing Escherichia coli among urinary and fecal Escherichia coli isolates of women with urinary tract infection in Kerman city

Background & Aim: Important challenge for treatment of urinary tract infections is the spread of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) producing Escherichia coli. Therefore, the frequencies of main beta-lactamase genes, resistance to beta-lactams and the ability of ESBLs production in urinary and fecal Escherichia coli of women with urinary tract infections were compared. Methods: In 60 Es...

Prevalence of Virulence Genes of Escherichia Coli O157:H7 Isolated from Patients with Urinary Tract Infections in Shiraz, Iran

Abstract Background and Objective: Escherichia coli O157:H7 is one of the most well-known pathogenic bacteria worldwide that can develop severe diseases such as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). This study aimed to assess the prevalence of virulence genes of E. coli O157:H7 in patients with suspected urinary tract infections (UTIs). Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was co...

the use of masks, considering compliance with this advice unlikely because many Muslims believe that covering the face during the Hajj is prohibited and because masks need to be of high quality and changed at least every 6 hours to remain effective (7). Recent studies demonstrated that surgical and N95 masks were equally effective in preventing spread of PCR-detectable infl uenza virus when use...

Identification of β-Lactamase-Negative-Ampicillin Resistance Strains of Escherichia coli in 150 Isolates from Urinary Tract Infection and Fecal Flora in Kerman

β-lactamases are enzymes which inactivate the β-lactam antibacterial agents and are one of the major causes of resistance against these drugs. Recently there are reports on the isolation of bacteria which does not produce β-lactamase, but are resistant to penicillins. In the present study, β-laclamase production was determined using iodometric method on 150 ampicillin resistance Escherichia col...

Lytic Activity of Isolated Phage from Milk Against Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase Escherichia coli

Background and purpose: Escherichia coli (E.coli) is the most common cause of urinary tract infection. The treatment strategy has been hampered by the emergence of broad-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing E.coli and its resistance to most antibiotics. Bacteriophages are suggested as an alternative treatment option. This study aimed at evaluating the lytic activity of isolated phage from unpaste...
