چکیده مقاله:

Objective: The prevalence of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) is growing. CVDs are the major cause of mortality and have become one of the most important health challenges in developing countries. Gallic acid (GA) is a natural phytochemical which has been widely used against multiple conditions. The present review was designed to evaluate molecular mechanisms underlying the protective effects of this agent against CVDs. Material and Methods: Data discussed in this review were collected from the articles published in databases such as Science Direct, Scopus, PubMed, and Scientific Information Database between 1993 and 2018. Results: According to the experimental studies, GA has protective actions against CVDs through increasing antioxidant enzymes capacity, inhibition of lipid peroxidation and decreasing serum levels of cardiac marker enzymes, modulation of hemodynamic parameters, recovery of electrocardiogram aberrations, and preservation of histopathological changes. Conclusion: GA has potential cardioprotective action. Therefore, it has been suggested that this agent can be administered in underlying of CVDS.

Molecular Targets Underlying the Anticancer Effects of Quercetin: An Update

Quercetin, a medicinally important member of the flavonoid family, is one of the most prominent dietary antioxidants. It is present in a variety of foods-including fruits, vegetables, tea, wine, as well as other dietary supplements-and is responsible for various health benefits. Numerous pharmacological effects of quercetin include protection against diseases, such as osteoporosis, certain form...

Cardiovascular Diseases and Periodontal Diseases: Review and Update

Accumulated evidence has strongly suggested that the long-term effects of periodontal diseases can be linked to more serious systemic conditions such as cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and diabetes. Especially a prevalence of coronary heart disease is found to be significantly increased in patients with periodontitis after adjusting the risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, and blood pressure. ...

Cigarette smoking and gastrointestinal diseases: the causal relationship and underlying molecular mechanisms (review).

Cigarette smoking is an important risk factor for gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, including peptic ulcers, inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn's disease and cancer. In this review, the relationship between smoking and GI disorders and the underlying mechanisms are discussed. It has been demonstrated that cigarette smoking is positively associated with the pathogenesis of peptic ulcers a...

Different generation of inhibitors against gallic acid-induced apoptosis produces different sensitivity to gallic acid.

Gallic acid (3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid), a naturally occurring plant phenol, showed selective cytotoxicity against tumor cells with higher sensitivity than normal cells such as hepatocytes and keratinocytes. To elucidate the difference in sensitivity between normal and tumor cells to gallic acid, we studied whether the inhibitor of gallic acid-induced apoptosis existed or not. A serum-free c...

Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Pluripotency

Pluripotency and self renewal are the two primary characteristics of pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) [1]-[4]. Pluripotency refers to the capacity of a single cell to give rise to any cell type of an embryo or an adult animal [5],[6]. A mammalian organism is developed from a single fertilized egg, the zygote, in an extremely ordered and error-proof fashion [7]. The zygote and the subsequent 2 to 4...
