چکیده مقاله:

Background: To investigate the frequencies of AZF microdeletions and chromosomal abnormalities in infertile men from Northeastern China. Moreover, to compare the prevalence of these abnormalities with other countries and regions in the world. Materials and Methods: 305 infertile men were enrolled. A complete semen analysis and reproductive hormones were measured according to standard methods. Multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification using 9 specific sequence-tagged sites (STS) were used to detect AZF microdeletions. Karyotype analyses were performed on peripheral blood lymphocytes with standard G-banding. Results: Of the 305 infertile men, 28 (9.2%) had AZF microdeletions and 26 (8.5%) had chromosomal abnormalities. The most frequent microdeletions were in the AZFc+d (53.6%), followed by AZFc (32.1%), AZFb+c+d (10.7%) and AZFa (3.6%). A total of 19 patients (73.1%) had Klinefelter′s syndrome (47, XXY) in the azoospermic group. Conclusion: The freqencies of AZF microdeletions and chromosomal abnormalities in infertile men from Northeastern China were comparable with infertile men from other countries and regions. However, there was a slightly higher prevalence rate of AZF microdeletions in oligozoospermic patients than reported in previous studies.

Cytogenetic abnormalities and azoospermia factor (AZF) microdeletions in infertile men from Kuwait

Approximately 15% of couples in the reproductive age group worldwide are affected by infertility, and it is estimated that about 40-50% of infertilities are of male origin. Genetic factor accounts for 10-15% of severe male infertility, including chromosomal aberrations and single gene mutations (Ferlin et al, 2006). After the Klinfelter syndrome, Y chromosomal microdeletions are the most freque...

Chromosomal abnormalities and Y chromosome microdeletions in infertile men from Morocco

BACKGROUND Male infertility is responsible for 50% of infertile couples. Thirty percent of male infertility is due to cytogenetic and genetic abnormalities. In Arab and North African populations, several studies have shown the association of these chromosomal abnormalities with male infertility. Our objective is to evaluate the frequency of chromosomal abnormalities and Y chromosome microdeleti...

Frequency of Y chromosome microdeletions and chromosomal abnormalities in infertile Thai men with oligozoospermia and azoospermia.

AIM To investigate the possible causes of oligozoospermia and azoospermia in infertile Thai men, and to find the frequencies of Y chromosome microdeletions and cytogenetic abnormalities in this group. METHODS From June 2003 to November 2005, 50 azoospermic and 80 oligozoospermic men were enrolled in the study. A detailed history was taken for each man, followed by general and genital examinat...

Male Infertility: Screening of Azoospermia Factor (azf) Microdeletion in Idiopathic Infertile Men

Genetic factors cause about 15% of male infertility and microdeletions of Y chromosome is one of the genetic causes in idiopathic infertile men. Azoospermia factors (AZFa, AZFb, and AZFc) on Yq long arm are most important for spermatogenesis. For analysis of microdeletions in the AZF regions by sequence-tagged-site (STS) PCR is important screening method for infertility. An attempt has been mad...

Tracking microdeletions of the AZF region in a patrilineal line of infertile men.

Male infertility is considered to be a difficult-to-treat condition because it is not a single entity, but rather reflects a variety of different pathologic conditions, thus making it difficult to use a single treatment strategy. Structural alterations in the Y chromosome have been the principal factor responsible for male infertility. We examined 26 family members of 13 patients with male infe...
