چکیده مقاله:

Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) is a multipurpose plant that is important as nutrition, medical, horticulture, landscape and environment. The plant has been cultivated since old Iran and Egypt which is mentioned in Bible and Quran. Origin of the plant is Iran and some neighbour countries, although it is cultivated in many countries, now a day. Botanically, it is classified in Punicaceae and has various varieties and cultivars those known as different names in the countries. Germplasm collections have developed in some countries that help genetic resources while germplasm evaluation has been studied by various methods, but determining distinct number of cultivars is not yet possible because of lacking close and distinct characteristics that are acceptable for scientists. In this review, therefore, origin, dispersion, collections and cultivars were investigated to introduce biodiversity and genetic resources of the plant.

Molecular and genetic aspects of odontogenic tumors: a review

Odontogenic tumors contain a heterogeneous collection of lesions that are categorized from hamartomas to benign and malignant neoplasms of inconstant aggressiveness. Odontogenic tumors are usually extraordinary with assessed frequency of short of 0.5 cases/100,000 population for every year. The lesions such as odontogenic tumors are inferred from the components of the tooth-structuring contrapt...

Integrating geo-referenced multiscale and multidisciplinary data for the management of biodiversity in livestock genetic resources.

In livestock genetic resource conservation, decision making about conservation priorities is based on the simultaneous analysis of several different criteria that may contribute to long-term sustainable breeding conditions, such as genetic and demographic characteristics, environmental conditions, and role of the breed in the local or regional economy. Here we address methods to integrate diffe...

Ellagic acid, pomegranate and prostate cancer -- a mini review.

There is currently a shifting focus towards finding natural compounds that may prevent or treat cancer, due to the problems that exist with current chemotherapeutic regimens. The fruit of the Punica granatum (pomegranate) contains hundreds of phytochemicals and pomegranate extracts have recently been shown to exhibit antioxidant properties, thought to be due to the action of ellagic acid, the m...

Biodiversity and intraspecific genetic variation

Biodiversity is mostly discussed at the level of species, but genetic variation within species may be as important as variation between species. It enables organisms to adapt to environmental changes. The requirement for genetic variation differs however widely between species and groups of species. Animal species at the top of the food web, such as large carnivorous mammals, tend to have a rem...
