چکیده مقاله:

Objective Chlorpyrifos (CPF), an organophosphate pesticide, is widely used in farms in order to preserve crops and fruits. Previous studies have shown that CPF exposure might cause chronic toxicity in male genital system. The present study investigated the protective effect of N- Acetyl Cysteine (NAC), a potent antioxidant against toxicity effect of CPF in male mice. MaterialsAndMethods in an experimental study, 42 adult male mice were divided into seven groups; CPF at low dosage of 0/5 mg/kg b.w and high dosage of 5 mg/kg b.w., NAC group (35 mg/kg b.w.), NAC+chlorpyrifos 0/5 mg/kg b.w, NAC+chlorpyrifos 5 mg/kg b.w, DMSO (0.75% solution mg/kg b.w) and control group. All groups were intraperitoneal injected. Treatment was conducted for consecutive four weeks (five days each week), however NAC had injected to NAC+chlorpyrifos groups five days before the treatment procedure began. One week after last day of treatment, mice were sacrificed using anesthetic gas to evaluate toxic alterations in testicular histology and also sperm parameters. Results Seminiferous tubules area and diameter were significantly diminished in 5 mg/kg CPF group (P

Comparative study of protective effect of silymarin and n-acetyl cysteine on isoniazid induced hepatotoxicity in mice

Drug induced liver injury (DILI) leads to acute hepatitis in 10%, liver failure, and death in 30%. One of the major drugs causing DILI is Anti-tuberculous drugs and since tuberculosis is affecting 1/3rd of the total world population, their use is quite common. Use of Isoniazid (INH) is limited owing to hepatotoxicity following the stress produced by oxidative species. Silymarin has hepatoprotec...

Protective Effect of N-Acetyl Cysteine in Carbon Tetrachloride-Induced Hepatotoxicity in Rats

The present study determines the efficacy of N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) on marker enzymes, lipid peroxidation and antioxidants in carbon tetrachloride induced hepatotoxicity in rats. Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) (3 mL/kg/week) administered subcutaneously to albino Wistar rats for a period of three months significantly increased the activities of marker enzymes in plasma such as aspartate transamina...

Combined Effect of N-Acetyl Cysteine and Clarithromycin on Bleomycin Induced Pulmonary Fibrosis

Combined therapy with clarithromycin (CLTR) and N–acetyl cysteine (NAC) may be useful in diseases with impaired oxidant-antioxidant balance, fibroblast proliferation, and collagen deposition such as pulmonary fibrosis. Activated inflammatory cells which accumulate in the lower airways may release increased amounts of reactive oxygen species (ROS) when accompanied with a deficiency in glut...

The Effect of Different Doses of N-acetyl Cysteine on Biochemical and Histopathological Parameters in Kidney of Formalin-treated Mice

Background and Aims: Formaldehyde, a colorless aldehyde with pungent odor, has negative effects on systems of the body. Considering, there are a little data about protective substances against kidney damage induced by formaldehyde, the aim of the present study was to examine the effects of different doses of N-acetyl cysteine on biochemical and histopathological parameters in k...

Protective effect of N-acetyl-L-cysteine on amyloid beta-peptide-induced learning and memory deficits in mice.

This study aimed to examine the effects of N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) on protecting neurons function and improving learning and memory deficits in mice. Mice were intracerebroventricularly (icv) injected with the aggregated amyloid beta-peptide (Abeta) to produce Alzheimer's disease (AD). Learning and memory functions in mice were examined by the step through test and the water maze performance....
