چکیده مقاله:

Injectable pastes are bioactive materials which are used in various forms in the living organism. The bioactivity of these materials are derived from calcium phosphate powder and/or a bio-glass composition. These materials are not individually injectable; however, they will be when suitable polymers such as chitosan, gelatin, sodium alginate, hyaluronic acid, etc. added to the paste. In this research, the authors have tried to prepare a bioactive injectable glass/polymer paste via mixing a sol-gel derived glass powder, based on the SiO2-CaO-P2O5 system, with polymer’s solution of gelatin. The rheological behavior and the injectability of the pastes were also investigated. The results showed that the paste was well-injected; however, it showed an undefined rheological behavior. The maximum viscosity of the paste was 8.88 × 10 Pa.s and it was washed out during it’s immersion in a simulated body fluid with time and reached to approximately 60wt.% of its initial weight after 48h. According to microstructural analysis, mineralogical phase analysis and Fourier Transform IR spectrometry analysis, the paste showed bioactivity after 14 days immersion in SBF solution.

Bioactive Ceramic-polymer Composites for Bone Replacement

Bone, at the ultra-structural level, is a composite with mechanical properties that can be matched by man-made composites. It serves as the template for developing bone replacement materials. Research on biomaterials analogous to bone was started in the early 1980s by incorporating bioactive particles into biocompatible polymers to produce bone substitutes. Hydroxyapatite reinforced high densit...

Bactericidal strontium-releasing injectable bone cements based on bioactive glasses.

Strontium-releasing injectable bone cements may have the potential to prevent implant-related infections through the bactericidal action of strontium, while enhancing bone formation in patients suffering from osteoporosis. A melt-derived bioactive glass (BG) series (SiO2–CaO–CaF2–MgO) with 0–50% of calcium substituted with strontium on a molar base were produced. By mixing glass powder, poly(ac...

Synthesis and rheological evaluations of novel injectable sodium alginate/ chitosan-nanostructured hydroxyapatite composite bone pastes

In this paper, nanostructured carbonated hydroxyapatite powder was synthesized using biomimetic method. Physical properties and morphological features of the powder was studied using appropriate techniques such as BET, TEM, XRD and FTIR. The powder was separately mixed with 3 wt. % solutions of either sodium alginate or chitosan to form different pastes. Rheological behavior of the pastes in os...

A Novel Injectable Calcium Phosphate Cement-Bioactive Glass Composite for Bone Regeneration

BACKGROUND Calcium phosphate cement (CPC) can be molded or injected to form a scaffold in situ, which intimately conforms to complex bone defects. Bioactive glass (BG) is known for its unique ability to bond to living bone and promote bone growth. However, it was not until recently that literature was available regarding CPC-BG applied as an injectable graft. In this paper, we reported a novel ...
