چکیده مقاله:

Abstract Objective: Adiponectin and vaspin are adipocyte-derived proteins and involved in the regulation of glucose metabolism and obesity related disorders. The mechanisms that adipokines might be linked to disturbance of glucose are unclear. Thus, this study investigated the levels of serum adiponectin and vaspin, blood lipid profiles, and abdominal obesity in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients and controls. Materials and Methods: Frothy T2DM patients and 40 healthy volunteers matched by age and body mass index (BMI) were enrolled in the study. The levels of serum adiponectin, vaspin, fasting blood glucose (FBG), 2-hr post prandial (2hr-PP), and lipid profile were measured in both groups. Anthropometric parameters including BMI, waist circumference (WC) and waist to height ratio (WHR) were measured. Results: Higher levels of vaspin and lower levels of circulating adiponectin were observed in T2DM patients than in the controls (P-value:0.0001). In multivariate regression analyses adjusted for age and BMI, serum adiponectin levels showed a significant negative correlation with WC, WHR, FBG and duration of diabetes, and a positive correlation with HDL. While, the vaspin levels were positively correlated with WC, WHR and duration of diabetes in T2DM patients. In addition, vaspin and adiponectin levels had negative correlation with each other. Conclusion: The findings suggested that the abdominal obesity had the highest relationship with adiponectin and vaspin in diabetic patients.

Serum vaspin concentrations in human obesity and type 2 diabetes.

OBJECTIVE Vaspin was identified as an adipokine with insulin-sensitizing effects, which is predominantly secreted from visceral adipose tissue in a rat model of type 2 diabetes. We have recently shown that vaspin mRNA expression in adipose tissue is related to parameters of obesity and glucose metabolism. However, the regulation of vaspin serum concentrations in human obesity and type 2 diabete...

Association of Serum Vaspin and Adiponectin Levels with Renal Function in Patients with or without Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Vaspin and adiponectin are two adipocytokines with antidiabetic effects. Some studies reported that levels of adiponectin and vaspin were correlated with decreased glomerular filtration rate (FGR) and increased albuminuria. We therefore evaluated the vaspin and adiponectin levels in renal insufficiency (RI) patients with or without T2DM. Serum vaspin, adiponectin levels were measured in 416 sub...

Abdominal Obesity and Brain Atrophy in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

AIM Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) is associated with gray matter atrophy. Adiposity and physical inactivity are risk factors for T2D and brain atrophy. We studied whether the associations of T2D with total gray matter volume (GMV) and hippocampal volume (HV) are dependent on obesity and physical activity. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this cross-sectional study, we measured waist-hip ratio (WHR),...

Serum levels of interleukin-23 and 35 in patients with and without type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic periodontitis

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and chronic periodontitis (CP) show common pathophysiological features. We investigated the serum levels of IL-23 and IL-35 in people with type 2 DM and CP. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 72 patients were divided into four equal groups: group A, participants without type 2 DM and CP; group B, patients with type 2 DM without CP; group C, patients ...

Serum vaspin concentration in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and macrovascular complications

BACKGROUND Adipose tissue, an endocrine organ of the body, is involved in some obesity-related disease states such as insulin resistance, diabetes mellitus, and atherosclerosis. Vaspin is a novel adipocyte with insulin sensitizing effects. In this study, we planned to estimate serum vaspin concentrations as related to glycemic status and the presence of macrovascular complications among elderly...

Low serum adiponectin levels in Korean children with a family history of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

BACKGROUND/AIMS The current worldwide increases of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in children coincide with increases in the prevalence of obesity. We investigated the insulin resistance and adiponectin levels of children and adolescents with a family history of T2DM (FHD). METHODS Our sample included 131 children and adolescents aged 8-15 years. Fasting plasma glucose, lipids, fasting insul...
