چکیده مقاله:

In the current research, a three-dimensional finite element model was considered to predict the mechanical behavior of Single Wall (SWCNTs) and Multi Wall Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs). Assuming the nonlinear elastic behavior of C-C bond in large strains, hyperelastic models were considered. Literature review revealed that the material parameters of the hyperelastic models have been determined from the uniaxial tension loading, although the nonlinear elastic behavior is not identical in the tension and compressions. Thereby, the energy-stretch curve of C-C bond was determined from the second-generation Brenner potential in uniaxial tension and compression conditions. The results were fitted to the Ogden, Moony-Rivlin, and Yeoh hyperelastic strain energy functions to derive the material parameter of the mentioned models. The results indicated that the second order Ogden model could describe the tensile and compressive hyperelastic behavior of the C-C bonds accurately. The results of SWCNT bending showed that a unique response could be captured by considering the tension and compression simultaneously in deriving of the material parameters. From the results of SWCNT, the mechanical behavior of MWCNTs were predicted by assuming the Van der Waals bonds between the layers using the Lennard-Jones potential. Results of loading on the external layer of MWCNTs showed that an increase in the layers causes a decrease in the stress so that the stress-strain curves become identical beyond 8 layers. Accordingly, the material parameters of the first order Ogden model were determined for MWCNTs considering the simultaneous response in tension and compression.

Investigation of Molecular Selenium ‎Adsorption to the Outer Surface of Single ‎Wall Carbon Nanotubes

In this study the adsorption of selenium molecule (Se2) on the outer surface of zigzag (5,0), (8,0) and (10,0) carbon nanotubes has been investigated. We examined number adsorbed orientations as well as different adsorption sites on nanotubes. The adsorption energies, equilibrium distances, energy differences between the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest uno...

A structural mechanics approach for the analysis of carbon nanotubes

This paper presents a structural mechanics approach to modeling the deformation of carbon nanotubes. Fundamental to the proposed concept is the notion that a carbon nanotube is a geometrical frame-like structure and the primary bonds between two nearest-neighboring atoms act like load-bearing beam members, whereas an individual atom acts as the joint of the related load-bearing beam members. By...

Effects of fullerene (C60), multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and hydroxyl and carboxyl modified single wall carbon nanotubes on riverine microbial communities.

Commercial production of nanoparticles (NP) has created a need for research to support regulation of nanotechnology. In the current study, microbial biofilm communities were developed in rotating annular reactors during continuous exposure to 500 μg L(-1) of each nanomaterial and subjected to multimetric analyses. Scanning transmission X-ray spectromicroscopy (STXM) was used to detect and estim...

Ab Initio Study of Chirality Effects Onphonon Spectra, Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Nearly Samediameter Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes

In this paper, we have used density functional perturbation theory (DFPT) and Pseudo-potential method to calculate the phonon spectrum, phonon density of states (DOS), specific heat capacity and mechanical properties of (5,5) armchair and (9,0) zigzag Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNTs). Our calculations show that Young’s modulusfor (5,5) and (9,0) nanotubesare higher than 1TPa. We have also ...

Low pressure adsorption of CO2 on multi-wall carbon nanotubes

Volumetric techniques were employed to study the adsorption of CO2 on a purified multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNT’s) sample, as a mesoporous material, at isothermal conditions of 288, 293 and 298 K and pressures ranging from 30 to 150 kPa. Langmuir, Freundlich and Sips equations were used to represent the isotherms. Also the parameters of these fitted isotherm models have been determined. The ...
