چکیده مقاله:

This study was designed to examine the effects of intracerebroventricular (ICV) injection of ketanserin(5-HT2a receptor antagonist) and SB242084 (5-HT2c receptor antagonist) on harmaline induced feeding anddrinking response in 24-h food-deprived (FD24) broiler cockerels. At first, guide cannula was surgicallyimplanted in the right lateral ventricle of chickens. In experiment 1, birds were injected intracerebroventriculary with 0, 25, 50 and 100 μg of harmaline. In experiment 2, chickens received 10 μg ketanserin prior to the injection of harmaline. In experiment 3, birds were administered with harmaline after 3 μg SB242084 and the cumulative food and water intake was determined at 3 h post injection. The results of this study showed that harmaline decreases food consumption and increases water intake in FD24 broiler cockerels (P≤0.05). The effect of harmaline on food and water intake was significantly attenuated with ketanserin and SB242084 pretreatment (P≤0.05). These results suggest that there is an interaction between harmaline and 5-HT (via 5-HT2a and 5-HT2c receptors) on eating response in chicken.

Role for serotonin2A (5-HT2A) and 2C (5-HT2C) receptors in experimental absence seizures

Absence seizures (ASs) are the hallmark of childhood/juvenile absence epilepsy. Monotherapy with first-line anti-absence drugs only controls ASs in 50% of patients, indicating the need for novel therapeutic targets. Since serotonin family-2 receptors (5-HT2Rs) are known to modulate neuronal activity in the cortico-thalamo-cortical loop, the main network involved in AS generation, we investigate...

The role of 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors in the signal attenuation rat model of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Serotonin 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors have been implicated in the pathophysiology of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and in the mechanism mediating the anti-compulsive effects of serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Yet it is currently unclear whether activation or blockade of these receptors would have an anti-compulsive effect. The present study tested the effects of 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C activatio...

The serotonin 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors interact with specific sets of PDZ proteins.

The 5-hydroxytryptamine type 2A (5-HT(2A)) receptor and the 5-HT(2C) receptor are closely related members of the G-protein-coupled receptors activated by serotonin that share very similar pharmacological profiles and cellular signaling pathways. These receptors express a canonical class I PDZ ligand (SXV) at their C-terminal extremity. Here, we have identified proteins that interact with the PD...

5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors as hypothalamic targets of developmental programming in male rats.

Although obesity is a global epidemic, the physiological mechanisms involved are not well understood. Recent advances reveal that susceptibility to obesity can be programmed by maternal and neonatal nutrition. Specifically, a maternal low-protein diet during pregnancy causes decreased intrauterine growth, rapid postnatal catch-up growth and an increased risk for diet-induced obesity. Given that...

Interaction of 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors in R(-)-2,5-dimethoxy-4-iodoamphetamine-elicited head twitch behavior in mice.

Drug-elicited head-twitch behavior is a useful model for studying hallucinogen activity at 5-HT(2A) receptors in the mouse. Chemically diverse compounds active in this assay yield biphasic dose-effect curves, but there is no compelling explanation for the "descending" portion of these functions. A set of experiments was designed to test the hypothesis that the induction of head-twitch behavior ...
